Coeliac, ex-soldier, now building a community map so coeliacs / GF can eat out with confidence

by•

Hi Product Hunt! I’m Pete, founder of Coeliac-Key (), based in Surrey, UK.

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2017. If you’ve never had to think about it: one crumb of gluten can make us ill for days, so eating out means questioning staff, scrolling old reviews and hoping for the best.

The tools out there didn’t help much. Generic review sites don’t tell you what a coeliac needs to know, and lately I’ve watched AI-built apps pop up that scrape data and confidently list places that closed years ago or changed their menu.

So with my co-founder Neil, I built the opposite:

  • Every venue is added and vouched for by real coeliacs, not scraped

  • Unvouched places fade from the map over time, so it reflects what the community actually backs today

  • Businesses can claim their listing, add their coeliac info and offer member discounts

  • Free for members, always

We launched in June 2026 and have grown to 1,000+ members, 1,000+ venues and 50+ partner businesses, mostly through Facebook groups and word of mouth.

AI can’t taste the food, notice a menu change or spot new owners. People can. That’s the bet we’re making.

I’d love to hear from other makers:

  1. Anyone else building a community-powered product? Our biggest challenge is the gap between people adding venues and people vouching for them (roughly 10 to 1). How have you got passive users to contribute?

  2. Any coeliacs or gluten-free folks here? I’d love your honest feedback on the site.

Thanks for having me! 🔑
