Coeliac-Key

Founder, Coeliac-Key. Gluten-free map

About

Coeliac since 2017 and founder of Coeliac-Key, a free community map of coeliac-friendly cafes, restaurants, pubs and mobile caterers. I got tired of generic reviews and AI apps built on scraped data, so I built a map where every venue is added and vouched for by real coeliacs. Unvouched places fade over time, so the map shows what the community actually backs. AI can’t taste the food or notice new owners. People can. Launched June 2026: 1,000+ members, 1,000+ venues, 50+ partner businesses so far. Built with my co-founder Neil. Always happy to chat about community-led products, building for niche audiences

Coeliac, ex-soldier, now building a community map so coeliacs / GF can eat out with confidence

Hi Product Hunt! I m Pete, founder of Coeliac-Key (coeliac-key.com), based in Surrey, UK.

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2017. If you ve never had to think about it: one crumb of gluten can make us ill for days, so eating out means questioning staff, scrolling old reviews and hoping for the best.

The tools out there didn t help much. Generic review sites don t tell you what a coeliac needs to know, and lately I ve watched AI-built apps pop up that scrape data and confidently list places that closed years ago or changed their menu.

So with my co-founder Neil, I built the opposite:

  • Every venue is added and vouched for by real coeliacs, not scraped

  • Unvouched places fade from the map over time, so it reflects what the community actually backs today

  • Businesses can claim their listing, add their coeliac info and offer member discounts

  • Free for members, always

We launched in June 2026 and have grown to 1,000+ members, 1,000+ venues and 50+ partner businesses, mostly through Facebook groups and word of mouth.

AI can t taste the food, notice a menu change or spot new owners. People can. That s the bet we re making.

I d love to hear from other makers:

  1. Anyone else building a community-powered product? Our biggest challenge is the gap between people adding venues and people vouching for them (roughly 10 to 1). How have you got passive users to contribute?

  2. Any coeliacs or gluten-free folks here? I d love your honest feedback on the site.

Thanks for having me!
