From backend development to indie development, making little tools for freelancers

by•

Hello everyone, I'm Hamza. For six years I was writing payment services for a logistics company, and last spring I started coding on the side after seeing how my freelance cousin lost a week's worth of pay because of some untidy invoices.

Currently I'm working on a light-weight tracker called Tallyfold which tracks who owes what and when to remind them. It's pretty messy, written with Supabase and a few weekend marathons.

I joined because I have never launched anything publicly, and would rather learn from people who have than guess. I read the forums almost everyday before joining.

One thing that you wish someone had told you before your first launch?

What I wish I'd known: forum threads here get reviewed before they go live, and the review rewards specifics. My thread that named the tool, the exact number and the dates got approved and pulled 42 comments. The next one, where I'd anonymised everything to play it safe, got rejected.

So when you post about Tallyfold, use the real amount your cousin lost. What was it?
