Hi from Spain 👋 Solo dev who built an AI historian after years in a camper van

by•

Hey everyone, I'm Quim, a solo developer from Spain.

I've been lurking here for a while, so it's time to say hello properly.

A bit about me: for a few years I travelled around Europe in a camper van, walking the same old towns again and again (Rome, Paris, Budapest, Prague...). I always skipped the big group tours and went alone with my headphones, but I kept having questions nobody around could answer: why is this street called that, what happened in this square, who lived in that house.

That itch turned into Narrativ: audio walking tours where you choose the angle of history you care about (dark history, architecture, legends, football), and an AI historian called Aura you can talk to by voice while you walk. I build everything myself: the app, the backend, the tours in 188 cities and 7 languages, and lately even the launch video.

This is what it looks like on a real street (30 seconds):

We're launching here this Thursday, which is equal parts exciting and terrifying.

I'd love to meet other people building in travel, audio or voice AI, and other solo makers. What are you working on? And if you travel a lot: what's the city you know best?

Hi Quim! Choosing the angle of history is a lovely idea, dark history in Prague must be a whole evening on its own. I build a song app, also mostly audio, so one thing I learned the hard way: people listen with the phone in a pocket, so the lock screen controls and what happens when a call or another app interrupts the audio matter more than any screen in the app. For a walking tour I'd guess even more, nobody wants to unlock the phone in the middle of a square. 188 cities in 7 languages solo is impressive. How do you check the facts in the tours, does a person read every one?
