I couldn’t hear my own mistakes, so I built TonePerfect
Hi Product Hunt! I’m Nik, a solo founder based between Paris and Tbilisi.
A few years ago I started learning Mandarin. I loved the language, but pronunciation kept frustrating me, especially tones. I could repeat a word again and again, but I never really knew if I was saying it right or just repeating the same mistake.
That’s the problem I wanted to solve: it’s hard to improve your pronunciation when you can’t tell what you’re getting wrong.
So I started building a tool for myself. It listened to me speak and showed me where my pronunciation was off, so I knew exactly what to practise next. That tool became TonePerfect.
It started with Mandarin. Today it supports Mandarin plus seven more languages, and it has grown into a pronunciation coach for learners of all of them.
Splitting my life between Paris and Tbilisi means I hear several languages every day, and it constantly reminds me why speaking matters so much. Vocabulary and grammar are important, but speaking out loud is where a language starts to feel real.
I’ve built TonePerfect on my own, improving it step by step based on feedback from the people who use it. Now I’m getting ready to launch on Product Hunt, and I’d love to hear what you think.
What language are you learning, and what’s the hardest part of pronouncing it for you?
Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll follow along!

I once studied French and struggled with their "r" sound; while in English, I spent a long time wrestling with the "th" sound (now I’m teaching my daughter "th"))
