I've been working on project planning tools for a while, and I keep running into the same gap.
On one side are simple task apps. They're easy to use, the whole team adopts them, and they look great. But ask them "when will this project actually finish?" and they can't tell you. They track to-dos but don't schedule anything. If one task slips, nothing else moves.
On the other side is traditional scheduling software. It has real dependencies, critical paths and resource planning. But it's expensive, takes weeks to learn, and usually only the project manager opens it. Everyone else works from an exported PDF that's out of date by Tuesday.
Most teams I've talked to end up with a messy middle ground: a task board for the team, a spreadsheet for the timeline, and a manager quietly re-doing dates by hand every Friday.
