How I turned a free side-project into 50k visitors in 24h (and $0 ad spend). 🚀

Yesterday, I launched a free 4K Star Map Generator on Reddit.
It hit #1 on r/InternetIsBeautiful, trended on r/space, and drove 50,000+ visitors to my main SaaS (Listify Studio).

Why I built it:

• Paid tools charge $15-$60 just for a simple PDF export.

• I wanted to offer a High-Res (4K) alternative for free.

• Result: The internet rewarded the "no paywall" approach.

The Tech:

• 100% Client-Side React (SVG rendering).

• $0 Server Costs (even with 50k hits).

• Real-time astronomy math (J2000 epoch).

Question for the community:

• Should I keep it 100% free forever as a "lead magnet"? Or add "Pro" themes later?

• How do you monetize free tools without ruining the user experience?
