Hey PH 👋,
I made Llama because I couldn’t quite find a tool that worked how I wanted it to. There are plenty of tools that help you make lists, but I wanted something that would actually help me work THROUGH my list.
To do this, Llama uses a concept called ‘timeboxing’, which is the practice of setting a fixed amount of time to each task.
This creates a useful constraint, a finishing point to work toward. It also provides the mental space to focus, as it encourages you to tackle one thing at a time.
With Llama, my end goal was to create something that would provide a feeling of calmness and control to whoever used it. I hope I’ve achieved this, but I'm always looking for ways to improve so feel free to drop me a line with any feedback or suggestions!
As for why it’s called Llama...🦙 🦙 🦙 well, that comes from a trip I did to Peru in 2018 (pre-covid!). I was lucky enough to visit a small village, and chat with some of the locals there. They had no electricity or running water, but damn they had a lot of llamas! At the time, one thing that stuck me was how peaceful, calm and content they all were, and when it came to naming this app, I wanted to replicate that feeling. And so...“Llama Life” was born.
Really excited to share this with you, and would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
Thanks,
Marie
=== Features ===
⏳ set custom timers for EACH task - they don't have to be 25 min.
⏰ alarm will sound when timer finishes - this can be a silent visual alarm, a nag alarm (goes off every minutes), or continuous until you stop it
😝 set emojis for each task - FUN! And visually helps group tasks together
✨ chimes - you can set a 'chime' to play at an interval of your choosing. I've had people set it to go off every 5 min to help keep them on track
⏱ track time spent on each task
➕ calculate the Total Time of the tasks in your list
🏁 calculate the estimate End Time for all the tasks in your list
🔁 create preset lists/templates - eg for common routines, repeated tasks
🏖 plays soundscapes for background noise eg wind, beach, forest, storm sounds
📋 see a Report for how productive you've been during the day
This is super cool!🔥
I absolutely love the list and timer concept combined!
Though other apps have the feature of reminders, the action of starting the timer really hits your brain differently and gets you started on the task. ⚡️
Beautifully designed and very user-friendly. Thank you!
Congratulations on the launch!👏
Is an android version coming up for this?
@juilee_mahimkar cheers Juilee! It's been a real labor of love 😊
Currently focusing on desktop web, but may do a mobile app in future.
My personal challenge is that my phone is one of my biggest distractions, and if I had to stop what I was doing to keep entering tasks on it, I might end up going into a black hole 😂

@ngthatsme1 Haha tell me about it! You have got a point there and that happens with me too! 😅
But many times when I am on calls or away from my laptop, that's when my phone beeps and it really helps to check if I am on track and not wasting time on unnecessary tasks.😃
@juilee_mahimkar yep, that makes sense. Hm, will keep mobile in mind! Maybe I can start with a version with just a few basic features?
For the web version...next on the list (no pun intended!) is to add the ability to add subtasks (much requested feature).
Also thinking about something for social accountability eg you get a URL for each task that you can choose to share publicly eg to share with a friend, so they can help provide external motivation to get things done 😝.

@ngthatsme1 This sounds really great! Will be waiting for these feature updates! ✨
@alxvok Thanks for the kind words Alex :) Focusing on desktop web at the moment and committed to making that the best it can be. Would never say never to a mobile app, maybe sometime in future!
Next up for desktop will be ability to add subtasks, and improving the Reporting to report by task categories.
@zahid_efe Thanks Zahid! What do you have in mind for the Chrome extension?

@ngthatsme1 I think opening app in new window is not that useful, also opening the app in new tab is not useful too. Because sometimes I have a lots of tabs in my browser and It's hard to find the tab in this mess.
I need only simple button on top right corner of my browser that shows llamalife.co/tasks when I click. Toggl Chrome extension might be inspiration for you.
Good luck!
