The OpenBB Terminal - The first open-source financial terminal

Almost 3 years ago I started building Gamestonk Terminal in my living room to build my own open-source investment research terminal. I wanted a better platform to do research and wanted to be able to fully customize it, and no platform out there gave me the freedom I was looking for. A few months later with a lot of traction, we were able to raise money and rebranded the terminal to OpenBB Terminal - you can read more about that story here. There are 4 main value propositions that the OpenBB Terminal has to offer: - AUTOMATE YOUR INVESTMENT RESEARCH WORKFLOW OpenBB routines take the investment research process from labor-intensive to a process that is automated and repeatable. This allows organizations (e.g. academia or investment firms) to ensure that different individuals in different machines, obtain the same outputs. - ACCESS UNLIMITED INVESTMENT RESEARCH DATA The OpenBB Terminal is driven by an active open-source community that believes that investment research should be accessible to everyone. This is the same community that keeps building data integrations from equity data to alternative datasets and all in between. - EXPORT ANY DATASET Since the OpenBB Terminal is installed in each user’s machine, you are in control of the data that gets exported. This financial data doesn’t go through OpenBB servers but relies on your personal API keys and access rights. - OVERLAY ANY FINANCIAL TIME SERIES Using our “hold on” command users are able to plot different time series together for better insights. This is a complex feature that relies on OpenBB’s data standardization which allows us to compare data from different data vendors, easily. The open source project can be found on GitHub here.
