It is 2023 and especially with ChatGPT it is clear that the AI content genie is out of the bottle!
With the proliferation of AI content the term “Original Content” needs to be redefined for 2023 and as digital marketers, we need to be armed with a modern set of tools to verify originality.
I am a fan of AI content BUT I also strongly believe that the decision on when AI content should be used should be up to you the marketer/publisher paying for the content and not the writer.
Before Originality.AI I built and sold a couple content marketing agencies where it became clear that a modern Plagiarism Checking solution along with an AI detection tool were needed!
From that idea Originality.AI has been built.
Originality.AI is a modern Content Originality Checking solution that we built specifically for serious Web Publishers and NOT students.
If you are a digital marketer/content agency/web publisher this tool is built for us…
Accurate AI Detector:
- With 94% accuracy detect ChatGPT-generated content
- Trained on all popular NLP models
- See detection history
Modern Plagiarism Checker:
- Modern plagiarism checker built for serious web publishers - not students!
- Add team members
- See a scan history
- auto-billing
- 20% less expensive then the typical competition
Chrome Extension:
- Quickly check to see if any content was AI generated
- Work within Google Docs or Wordpress to verify if the content was AI generated
Whats Next:
The team has grown and we are working quickly on the following improvements…
- Highlighting AI content
- Bulk site scanner
- A big plagiarism checker upgrade
Some Limitations:
The ability to detect AI content is not 100% accurate and so it can generate some false positives. At 94% accurate on GPT-3 raw output it will not 100% of the time detect AI-generated content. However, over a large enough sample the results can be relied upon.
Excited to hear your feedback.

@jon_gillham good stuff Jon. Wish I had this two months ago when I wrote my ebook. I’ll be using this for some writers I have building the next ebook.
@kensavage sounds good Ken. Yah there have been some interesting discussions with writers based on the findings of Originality.AI. Some who swore they never used AI when confronted with data admit to it.
@jon_gillham Awsome! it's going to be a moment marketing product!

@jon_gillham Thank you!!! I just Signed Up Originality. Thank you a lot for the 500 credits. I will try to detect AI texts today and tomorrow I will publish my results.
With things evolving so rapidly in the space, it’s great to see innovation going into both sides - the rush to create and the rush to moderate
Congrats on the launch ?makers !
@aridutilh thanks Air. Yah it is a fascinating time for generative AI. We are not "against" AI content but only believe that a publisher should be the one making the decision on when they will and will not use AI content.

I'm glad I found Originality.AI. I'm both a writer and an editor so it's extremely important for me to make sure that my own work doesn't get tagged as plagiarized - believe me, this is a challenge especially when I need to copy an exact quote from my sources so I have to make sure my content is at a safe percentage.
I also always thought that no robot can ever take the place of writers, apparently there are many AI's these days that do the work. It was another challenge for me when my clients started asking for BOTH plagiarism-free and no-AI-used proofs. My usual go-to plagiarism checker doesn't have the AI detector capability. Using two different apps/programs won't be practical for me since I have to do checks almost every day.
Thankfully, there's Originality.AI. I'm super thankful I also received those free credits as well, which gave me the chance to try it out before making a decision.
Just one question though and I hope the maker would notice me - what's the basis for the AI detection percentage? I'm just wondering because I'm pretty sure I wrote all of my content and I never use an AI, in fact, I don't know how to use AI, but I'm still getting more or less 20% AI detection. I also need to know since I intend on using this a lot for articles from other writers that I check.
Thank you!
@rona_field good news Originality.AI thinks your comment is 100% original. You are not a bot!
It is saying there is a 20% probability that the content is AI generated and 80% probability it is human-generated. The tool is 94% accurate so there is always going to be some false positives. If you are getting under 20% probability of AI consistently that is good.
Report
@jon_gillham Thank you for your response!
Just to be clear, 20% for AI probability is good enough, right? I'm asking so I can use this as a standard when checking articles submitted to me.
Report
@jon_gillham@rona_field I'm curious too. A comment further below had a theory that if the content doesn't provide value and just states fact then it's usually a higher AI %.
@rona_field What I can suggest is that...
1. Look at a larger sample than 1 article to make a decision on a writer
2. A writer that gets typically very low scores has 1 higher score... not necessarily AI
For example if you have a writer who submits 10 articles and these are the AI scores...
Writer 1: 99, 75, 99, 99, 0, 15, 99 65, 74, 99 - Very good chance they are using AI with some minor edits to some articles
Writer 2: 0, 0, 15, 0, 1, 40, 75, 0, 0, 20 - Very good chance they are not using AI but had a couple articles where they needed to write very formulaic content which can trigger a false positive
Writer 3: 45, 55, 68, 99, 0, 43, 25, 15, 20, 65 - Hard to say anything conclusively but based on what we have seen this is likely heavily edited AI or AI used for some parts of the content

Like most people, when I first heard about orignaility.ai, I was a bit skeptical. But honestly, it has been a game-changer for me.
Here's the story.
As a content writer, I have been working in a popular content writing agency.
Although there were many A.I. writing tools before, when ChatGPT came out, a lot of webmasters became conscious about the authenticity of the content.
My content manager asked me 'If I ever used any A. I tool for writing?' I said, 'No, as I never did.' While we were talking, I let him know about orignality.ai and how it detects A. I content (as I was using it before).
He checked my written content, and BOOM, it showed 100% original content.
We also checked a good 200k words of content with originality, and I can confidently say that it was able to detect the A. I content with over 90% accuracy. Plus, the plagiarism checker also does great.
Coming to the second part, originality.ai really made my content stand out as a writer. One of the things I noticed while using it is that if you write generic content that doesn't show your deep research skills, orginaility.ai will label the content as ai.
In the start, this was a big headache for me. But later, I realized that your content has to be really authentic. It should have your own experiences and provide value. Otherwise, ChatGPT and A. I writing tools can also write plain simple facts too.
If someone is a writer or editor, I recommend using orignality.ai one hundred. Not only would it detect A. I content but also help your content become better in many, many areas.
I, however, have two questions about orignality.ai
1. Does the length of content impact the ability of orignality.ai ability to check ai content?
2. Is there any percentage of A. I contend that we should consider it safe and above it is a red flag.
@ihassanmnop such a great story to hear and thank you for sharing.
Excatly the approach that many people are taking... if it looks like AI then it is likely at least not "great" content.
Length - If there is a small amount of AI content in a large original article then yes that reduces the probability of AI. We are implementing a highlighting solution that will address this.
Percentage of AI that is SAFE - Depends on who you ar wanting to be safe from... As a writer being safe from your editor/client might be different then your desired # if you are a publisher with a not very important site. I am working on how to help provide better guidance on this consistent question. If you know you wrote the article and you are under 20% then I would have no concerns!
Great to see the product launch on ProductHunt.
I've been using it for a few weeks and used to to recently hire 8 content writers and still have a list of more than 200 writers to screen.
It saved me lots of time and money by being able to see when some writers used AI or plagiarized other web content with no attribution or references cited.
This also protected my business by avoiding getting deranked or manually dinged by Google for using AI which could result in massive damage to my company and web presence otherwise.
I found it via Spencer Haws at Niche Pursuits and since then Originality has become a part of our workflow now and is great especially when compared to products like Copyscape or Poem of Quotes.
Looking forward to more great features and to seeing the project grow.
I've been using Originality for a while and I can confirm it's a great tool for detecting AI-generated content. It's accurate, efficient and easy to use. Supporting multiple languages is also a plus. The tool offers great customizing options and explanations for flagged content. I definitely recommend Originality for anyone in need of a reliable tool for detecting AI-generated content.

ChatGPT wrote that review (took 4 prompts to get it there). You need Originality to detect stuff like this. I ran it through Originality and got a 79% AI score...ran it through a couple other top tools and they said it's 99% human written. Not only is it 100% AI, it aslo has a few glaring inacuraccies (i'll let you figure out what it got wrong).
@john_webber_carved_ haha John this is my favourite comment. I was reading it and thinking wait what??
To clarify for everyone...
1. Originality does not YET support multiple languages for AI detection
2. Highlighting the suspected AI content is coming soon
The bottom of comment is very much true! Originality.AI is able to detect ChatGPT while most tools that are built to detect GPT-2 content are not able to.

I've been using Originality AI for a while now as a plagiarism tool for my writing and I am really impressed with it. I really liked that Originality AI not only checks for plagiarism within your document but also detects the use of AI all at once. I just had one question: Is it possible for you to incorporate a package for payment? I mean one pays a specific amount per month and he/she can scan an unlimited number of words.
@shamilla we don't plan to offer different monthly plans since we know that could get confusing between payment packages. We like keep things easy/simple to use and the $0.01/credit pricing makes that easy!
@richard_gao2 it detects ChatGPT plus all OpenAI NLP models (GPT-2, GPT-3, GPT-3.5) and Eleuther AI NLP models (GPT-J, GPT-NEO). It does not detect quillbot (yet)... but on our list for training it to detect that.
Report
@richard_gao2@jon_gillham Do quillbot, jasper, copyshark, etc. use GPT behind the scenes? I thought it would work with those
@richard_gao2@gergo_miklos it does... pretty much all the available AI Writing tools connect to the OpenAI GPT-3 API.

Originality AI has solved a lot of my problems for me as a writer, editor, publisher, and marketer. Dealing with search engine algorithms and picky clients has made me dabble a lot into AI writing along with your usual writing.
I manage a team of 10-12 writers and this AI has changed the way I have streamlined my content creation process, as I have to maintain a fine ratio of the original and ai content in my content pieces. In some pieces I have to keep no traces of ai so the flagging system on Originality AI's is pretty advanced. Compared to some of my other plagiarism detection devices like Grammarly PRO and Copyscape, I can safely deduce that this one is the most advanced and easy to edit content editor there is. I get done with edits in a matter of minutes.
On top of that, the new google extension had made life so much easier as I can check what webpage is Ai generated and what isn't within seconds! That is the best, and Its worth it to maintain my subscription just for that. I get so many features with this its unreal.
A question I have been dying to know is that how similar this app is to Google's AI detection system? If I remove all flagged content in my edits, will Google also then find that everything is original, or do they have a different detection mechanism?
Can't wait for you to keep bringing new features!
