Onyx Electric Motorbikes - Powerful electric bikes that can hit 60mph and go for 75mi.

by

ONYX is introducing a line of powerful electric bikes inspired by vintage racing mopeds. ONYX bikes go further (75mi) and faster (60mph) than almost any other electric bike. And while electric bikes are notoriously expensive, these are available at a pre-order price of under $3k.

High speed sustainable transportation that won't break the bank.

Hi PH, I’m an Indiegogo backer who thought that our community would enjoy these bikes. I’ve been obsessively learning about these bikes since I backed the project, so I bet I can answer some of your questions. Some FAQs I’ve seen: Can I have it now? * No. It’s an Indiegogo project that's fully funded ($550k currently) and they anticipate shipping the bikes in September. Is it street legal? * Yes, in most states, as long as you ride under 20-25mph. Both bikes have limiter switches that keep the bike in legal range. Do I need a license to ride these? * In most states, no. Both bikes are limited to 750 watts, or 125/50cc, which disqualifies them from official classification as motorcycles. Tell me about the two models. * The RCR: 75mi max range, 60mph top speed, $2600 preorder. And the CTY: 40mi max range, 30mph top speed, $1875 preorder. Can you pedal these? * Yes, but they are one speed, like a fixie. Similar to mopeds from the 70’s and 80’s. What about security? * You’ll be able to lock the bike via an app and slide off the battery (similar to the Super 73’s). Beyond that, a motorcycle disc brake lock or a heavy duty bicycle chain lock would be your best bet. What else is fancy about them? * Regenerative braking, replaceable batteries, an off-road upgrade kit, customizable power/performance settings via an app, 3 speed modes, LCD display, and a USB charger in case your phone dies. Any other questions? I’ll do my best!

@hellochriscole reminds me of the convo around electric scooters and new paradigm for urban transport. I think scooters are clunky and less overall utility vs something more mid-range and with more consistent user experience (we all have far more experience with bikes) Here’s the article though— interesting to see what happens: http://andrewchen.co/scooter-pla...

@thomasle0n totally agree, reading this now. I ride a bike to work when I can and it's always a bit scary because I can't completely keep up with traffic in areas where there are no bikes lanes. Neither can a scooter. But something like this could totally flow with traffic which, in my mind, would keep riders safer and create less upsets from the car-goers.

Backed them on Indiegogo and can't wait to put them to the test in September.

Pros:

Awesomely fast, super long range, affordable electric bikes.

Cons:

Unsure about how a cop would treat it.

Ive been waiting for an ebike that was both off road capable and could be used as a daily commuter. I ride a ebike to work with Pedal Assist with a top speed of 20 and range of 20 miles and am tired of being passed by other bikers and traffic.

Pros:

Great range and speed for the price.

Cons:

i cant wait for my RCR

50% of my trips are on my eboard, and i've been thinking about buying an emotorbike for a while, but havent been happy with the options out there. saw this on indiegogo and immediately backed - perfect blend of price, look, speed, and range.

Pros:

finally, a beautiful, fast, affordable emotorbike

Cons:

i have to wait until september

This looks promising! I own an old motorbike but I'm tempted to try this one out. I don't need to ride fast, just comfortable. I also like to listen music a lot, so that's why I have one question: should I get an amplifier like one from this article https://yourmotobro.com/best-mot... for this bike? Just want to be sure it could handle a sound system. Thanks!

Hello Chris, it’s interesting what you’re trying to achieve here, But 550k seems like a little funding for what you’re trying to achieve here
