Great launch & great video, would love to see Polar participate in OSS Pledge https://osspledge.com/

Well as much as I love the idea of an open source alternative, I'm skeptical about how the funding and memberships will hold up, better pricing sounds nice but I worry it might compromise the features and support we get, I've seen too many platforms promise the moon only to deliver peanuts so will wait and see how this holds up over real-world use

I get what you're going for but looks like just an overhyped version of existing platforms, better have some unique features or it's gonna be a tough sell, also please make sure your pricing really is better and not just marketing fluff
@naptacofounder Thanks for the candid feedback.
Would be great if you could elaborate so it's actionable. I think our fees are highly competitive in the segment we're in, but certainly not against pure PSPs. However, that's because we offer more than PSPs by being a merchant of record and taking care of sales tax and EU VAT. In terms of features, I think we offer quite a bit of features that others don't, but we also miss some of theirs.
We're not for everyone nor should we be. Competition and alternatives is important.
So I'm curious: How could the pricing be better for your use case? What is it and which features would you like to see to empower it that we're missing today?
@birk Congratulations on the launch! Polar seems like a dream come true for indie developers and open source projects. The ease of setting up memberships and crowdfunding is particularly exciting.

Great initiative but with all the AI advancements taking jobs isn't this just a band-aid for a bigger problem? also open source isn't always sustainable, how do you ensure developers actually get steady income considering the risks?
@bpcemgr Personally, I believe AI will generate more software developers than it replaces. Since a) more people can become developers & b) developers can achieve more standalone. So I believe the future is more independent software developers & small businesses. So no, not a band-aid, but rather a big shift of independent empowerment that Polar can hopefully help power further.
Re: sustainability. I agree. That's why Polar offers monetization tools beyond funding so that open source developers can experiment more easily with charging for value-add services & products.

Okay, so this is supposed to be an alternative to other platforms with better pricing, but is it really that better, I mean open source is cool and all, but how easy is it to integrate it into my existing set up, has anyone actually tried using this for a real project yet, would love to hear more feedback from actual users also how does it handle international taxes, I've had bad experiences before so kind of skeptical.

I'm looking for an MOR at the moment - other than open source, what are the main advantages of Polar over Paddle?

Congrats, does this work well for India?
