Hey everyone! Today we're sharing another project that was born from our internal Hackathon back in late November. @ahiggz pitched the idea, @syswarren designed it by the next day, and our team of engineers (@rsiwady, @rahulmfg, @devladinci, @denistsuman) brought a working prototype to life by the end of the week. Our goal in creating the new extension was to enable daily discovery of products, tech trends, discussions, maker stories, and more without sacrificing utilities that other browser extensions might offer (most visited pages, date & time). The previous extension had been around for awhile but needed a major design update and better connection with user accounts to pull in a personalized feed. The tabs across the top show your favorite topics, allowing for easy filtering. My favorite part? My current streak displayed besides my avatar. 🔥 Plus there are a few ways to customize your new tab: ⚙️ Toggle between card view and list view 🌘 Set your screen to dark mode We hope you try it out and share your thoughts with us!

@jamie_sprowl I dig the new extension, it’s been seamless for me thus far. My only feedback is having the ability to hide or edit (say, replace with quick links), the Most Visited section.
Jamie Sprowl
@lewis502 agreed, this would be an awesome customization!

@jamie_sprowl I love New Tab extensions. That’s how we started building MicroMove.io, but just changed it to a “normal” extension! Congratulations on the launch :)

I loved Product Hunt Tab, and this new design is refreshing. Thanks, ?makers — keep up your great work 😻

@fmerian Thanks Flo! So glad you're enjoying the (much-needed) refresh. Kudos to @syswarren for the new design

Is it possible to revert to the previous version?
Jamie Sprowl
hey @adigold1 - it's not possible to switch between old and new. We fixed a lot in terms of functionality, so think this version is a major improvement overall. Anything specifically about the design we could consider to make it more desirable for you?
Adi Goldstein
@jamie_sprowl I would be extremely happy if you could at least bring back the 'Direct Link' icon, which would allow me to jump directly to the product website without going through the product hunt page.
Jamie Sprowl
@adigold1 just got the direct link added back! Appreciate you pointing out that we missed it on our first release.
Adi Goldstein
@jamie_sprowl That's super helpful and useful! Thank you so much :)

💡 Bright idea
Ugh, love the new tab extension so much. The time w/ streak display and favorite/recent tabs is such a nice touch! It'd be cool to see your badge progress on the extension and a "random product" generator that displays a random product each time you open the tab. Congrats PH team on the launch! 🙌

@gabe Love your ideas and happy you're a fan of the changes!

@johnny_makes thank you!

Too much pressure with "x day streak" title. 😉 Nice redesign!

I really liked the old product hunt tab. This one looks nice, but it's not functional like the last one. I liked the 3 columns view. Any chance you could allow people to go back to the old view?
Jamie Sprowl
hey @alecdewitz - appreciate the feedback, but since we've replaced the old one there's no way to flip between old and new. There were some major issues with the last one, but understand everyone has different preferences and get used to certain layouts. Anything we could think about doing to enhance the current version that would make it better for you? Hope you noticed you can change card view to list view in the settings. :)
Alec Dewitz
@jamie_sprowl Personally I don't like the list view because you can't see the opengraph images. The 3 column grid view was very visually pleasing and gentle on the eyes. Any chance you can bring back the cards (with hover state styling) for each new featured product?
Jamie Sprowl
@alecdewitz we'll keep your suggestions in mind for future updates! Thanks for being a loyal user of the extension and helping us improve it.
Chad Fullerton
@alecdewitz @jamie_sprowl I agree, could you bring back a 3-column design option?
Gorkem Cetin
I was going to uninstall the new version until I came here and saw there's a list view. By default, the grid view is not something I wanted due to large images and suboptimal way of using the area, but never thought it would be configurable.

Currently i'm using it, love the re-design. I was shock today suddenly i saw something new!
