You don’t have to unplug to lock in. I’m building a different social network.
Hey 👋 I’m Jordan, founder of What’s New (https://whatsnewwith.you).
I like the internet. I like making things, discovering artists, and keeping up with people I care about. But opening an app to check on a friend shouldn’t turn into 45 minutes of videos I never meant to watch.
If you’re building a business, learning a skill, making art, or just trying to be more present with your family, your attention matters. So do your relationships. I don’t think we should have to sacrifice one for the other.
That’s why I’m building What’s New: a social network meant to fit into a life you’re actively living.
• Private Circles for family, friends, and the people you actually want to hear from. Share the ordinary stuff you’d never make a polished Instagram post about.
• Town Squares for useful local news, events, neighbor questions, and businesses worth stopping into. Choose the sources you follow.
• Interests for finding people who love what you love—and maybe someone to actually do those things with.
• Stars for artists and creators to share their work, open an exhibition, and build a following around what they make.
The goal is simple: catch up, make a connection, then get back to your day with something worthwhile.
You don’t have to disappear from the internet to become the person you want to be. You should be able to choose a corner of it that supports that life.
I originally built this for my family and friends. It’s early, I’m working on it every day, and I’d love feedback from people who care about building better software—and a better relationship with it.
Try it with two or three people you’d actually like to hear from: https://whatsnewwith.you
What would make a social network worth checking—and easy to put down?
