What makes a recommendation actually convincing?

A. "Gorgeous little spot in Silver Lake. Great pastries, lovely place to sit"

B. "Order the 12oz, not the 16oz. Pistachio milk and no sweetener. Go before 9am or you won't get a seat."

Which one actually makes you go? And what is it about a recommendation in general that makes you trust it?

For me a good recommendation is one that feels specific and actually solves a real problem not just a generic list of features

I couldn't agree more! Thanks for sharing!

Nice input! B wins for me because the detail says someone actually used the thing. I tend to trust the weird constraint or tradeoff more than a nice description. Is that why B feels more real?

Yes, exactly that. "Weird constraint" is a better way to put it than I had.

I think it's because a constraint can only come from having been there. Nobody invents "go before 9", you only know that if you turned up at 10 once and regretted it.

Same thing going through saved posts lately... the ones where someone's actually talking carry that kind of detail. The pretty photo roundups almost never do!
