This is a really interesting take on guided tours. Well done on the promo video as I think it captures the essence of what it can be really well. Congratulations on the launch Gabriele! If you ever need to pick some brains for travel trips for Thailand, I'm available π
@chusana thanks for the feedback, and we for sure can benefit from a lot of tips. If you're interested we have an Early Adopter program on the website, to make connections and hear from the community which features we should prioritize
I used to work at Handy, not sure if you've heard of them but they went bankrupt a few years ago. Basically they provided phones for hotel rooms which you could take anywhere in addition to having mobile data - one of the features was to provide tourism information about the current city. Touring reminds me of Handy, and I sure do hope this will succeed! I'll check out the app to see what you have in store. Good luck!
@florian_pranata_hidayat Hi Florian, thank you for your comment! This is very useful information for us, could you point out what the main problems were for Handy?
@gabriele_mazzola just like every business that died - they couldn't make money. They tried several different business models and none of them worked. The tourism info is just a small subset of what they provided though, so how they failed is probably not too relevant to Touring, but good information nonetheless.
Just ask away if you wanna find out more! Happy to answer with what I know as long as it's not too sensitive.
@florian_pranata_hidayat absolutely! Yeah I am more interested in - if you know and can talk about it - the problems they faced around the domain that Touring also touched.
We understand itβs hard to make something like this profitable, but if you look at how much people spend in the travel industry, the pool is quite large.
We can also talk privately about this matter!
@gabriele_mazzola sure thing! just send me a DM on LinkedIn. would be really happy to see you guys succeed where Handy didn't. A little disclaimer though, I only worked at Handy for a little less than a year, but I can probably give some insights for you based on what it was like inside the company and what I read when they came crashing down.

Congratulations on your launch, Gabriele and team! It's impressive how you've blended AI, human curation, and a touch of magic to create a personalized tour guide experience. How does Touring handle various dialects and languages to ensure the narrations feel local and authentic?
For a feature suggestion, have you considered implementing a feature that allows users to contribute their own local knowledge or tips, which could be vetted and incorporated into your human-curated content? Also, a 'tour memory' feature that stitches together photos taken during the tour, with snippets of the AI narration as an audio background, could be a unique keepsake for travellers. Keep up the fantastic work!
@uxyemi thanks for this feedback!
Human curated content will be a key part of the content strategy, and we'll roll that out bit by bit in the next months. For now, content is sourced autonomously from online sources and public knowledge bases.
As for "tour memory", that's a very cool idea! We could make something up for social media sharing, like you share on your feed a quick recap of your visit.

@simone_colucci_93 Cool, good to know. Yeah, quick recap for socials would be nice.
This is super cool! A walking tour in your pocket at all times?! π
Not sure if you already have this, but native event-specific add-ons could be extremely fun. For example, let's say I'm going to Rio for Carnival next year, would the app recognize the dates automatically and curate the content based on that or would I have to ask touring about this specifically?
Congratulations and would love to see how deep you guys have dived with handling localization challenges of remote places in the globe. Is there a location /place /city simulator for us to check and see how the app resonates?
@santhosh213 Hi Santhosh, thank you for your comment!
Indeed, area with difficult localization can be tough to handle, and in certain cases there literally nothing that we can do. Thankfully, though, those areas are not many and we do not think that many travellers would like to use Touring if at such location.
A simulator is available, but it's meant for showing the potential of Touring's narrations, and does not provide any information about the precision of the location.

@gabriele_mazzola Oh, yeah, I hear you. Let me play with it and get back to you. Great job
Very interesting tool. Congratulations first of all! Could you please elaborate how did you feel the need for bringing out such product? Is it based on a market study or something else?
@xaqan We initially started from a feeling that some people in the team had. Then, we of course got the opinion of friends, colleagues, friends' friends, etc...
We then did some experiments on the field and asked people ratings about the experience and whether they would do it again, paying.
We've always got positive feedback, but of course that does not necessarily mean that we have PMF. We're going to continue to study the market and understand the needs of travellers while building the app!
Thank you for your comment, I hope I answered you.
