Where do you draw the line between AI at work and AI on your own time?

by•

Building apps is my job, and AI is part of how I do it. After hours, I can't always tell if it's still work.

In Unprompt, I set my work hours once. It uses them to sort work from personal.

The blurry part is my own time: a side project at 10pm, a script for a friend on a Sunday.

How do you draw that line? Fixed hours, or a separate machine?

For me, it’s quite simple: during the day, I build applications as part of my professional work, and once my three children are finally asleep, I build applications for myself-provided, of course, that my wife doesn’t have better plans for me! :)

It’s the same laptop with the apple logo, the same AI-powered tools, but the motivation is entirely different. You want to know the funny part? Sometimes, at 11:00 PM, I feel more enthusiastic about coding than I do at 11:00 AM (even after a coffee or two).

Ultimately, the difference doesn’t lie in the time of day or the hardware. It comes down to whether you’re creating something because you have to, or because you truly want to.
