Voquill on iOS & Android - The open source WisprFlow alternative, now on mobile

The open-source alternative to WisprFlow is now available on iOS and Android. Type 4x faster by using your voice. Works in any app, and now even on the go. Voquill gives you full control over where your voice data goes: bring your own API key, use our cloud, or stand up your own server. Voquill even works for highly regulated industries since all data is kept in-house

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 Josiah here, co-founder of Voquill. We just launched our iOS and Android apps! Voquill is open-source voice dictation that works in any app. Think WisprFlow, but you own your data. Run it against our cloud, bring your own API key, run it fully locally, or stand up a server in your stack for your whole org. Voquill works best for regulated industries. Now it works on your phone too. Would love to hear what you think!

So cool! Does Voquill perform speech-to-text locally on-device, or does it rely on remote LLM/STT APIs even when using a custom API key? If remote, where are the requests routed and how is data handled? Thanks!

@francesco_beomonte_zobel You can use any processing you'd like: Remote APIs, our cloud, or locally (only desktop platforms support local). For APIs, you can use all major providers (OpenAI, groq, Claude, deepgram, etc... there's a lot)

I have been using this app, Voquill, for the last four days, and I’m writing this based on my own experience during the one-week trial. I installed both the Windows version on my laptop and the Android app on my smartphone.

First, I would like to thank the developer for supporting my mother tongue, Bangla. It is one of the very few apps that offer such strong support for a language spoken by nearly 300 million people, especially in speech recognition.

The installation on my laptop was smooth, but I faced some issues on the smartphone. The app takes over the default keyboard, which makes manual typing difficult. Every time I want to type, I have to switch back to Gboard from the settings. This is quite inconvenient, and I hope they improve it.

In terms of speed, the transcription is blazing fast, and I’m very satisfied with its performance. The accuracy in English is nearly 100%, leaving little to complain about. It also works seamlessly across different text boxes and websites.

Another great feature is the option to use your own API key for free. I tested this, and it worked well, although it became slightly slower compared to the default setup. Still, I appreciate that they offer this flexibility at no cost.

Overall, I am highly satisfied with my experience and wish the team continued success. This app can save users a significant amount of time and energy.

@razib_ahmed4 Glad to hear this is working for you Razib! Thank you for the kind words. Noted on the android app. Hoping to get some time to fix that here soon.

Honestly this is the first time I am writing about any product / app. Making it completely free and even enabling users to experience very polished speech to text problem while building the community And letting them bring their own models while also educating them on how to get it for free. I think this is really great stuff and just like Obsidian, I think this app and creator will inspire lot of people :)
