We tried an open photo scavenger hunt in Whimscope. Here’s what happened
Party has been part of Whimscope since launch, but we’re still figuring out what kind of social activities actually make sense for the app.
We recently tried Number Hunt, an open photo scavenger hunt where players had to find numbers from 1 to 20 in real life, in order.
5 people played for a week across 2 cities, about 30 km apart.
The nice part was that the game just fitted into normal days. Someone would spot a number while walking somewhere, post it, and the next person would continue later.
And after a couple of days, people started seeing numbers everywhere.
A 6 was actually VI on a street sign.
10 came from a 10% descent sign.
11 was a seat number on a train between the two cities.
That’s probably why this format felt so right for Whimscope.
The whole idea behind the app is very simple: life feels bigger when you notice it. Even the name comes from a telescope — focus on something and suddenly you see more.
There’s also something nice about playing with other people without really having to coordinate with them. You’re on your own walk, in your own city, but still adding something to the same game.
We’re trying another one now: Word Chain.
You find a word somewhere around you, and the next person has to find another word starting with its last letter. The goal is 20 words.
Still testing what else could work in this format. If you have an idea, I’d genuinely love to hear it.

I somehow missed all the fun with Number Hunt 😅 But I’ve already joined Word Chain, so at least I’m not missing this one.
