The Windsurf Editor - The first agentic IDE that merges AI agents and co-pilots

Windsurf is an IDE that enables anyone to collaborate in lockstep with AI. Built by the Codeium team, the Windsurf Editor combines the best of copilot and agent systems to help you ship products faster, leveraging better context to provide better suggestions.

I've spent decades creating tools for *other* engineers (I was on the Visual Studio team at MS and the Xcode team at Apple). The instant I finished reading the original paper on the transformer architecture I knew someone would invent Windsurf. While I fully understand the skepticism wrt gen AI, my personal experience has been amazing. Windsurf provides a streamlined version of what I'd already been doing (just with an amalgam of quickly hacked together tools). I'm glad the team chose to start with a VS Code fork instead of a simple extension. I already have a list of 20 things I'd like Windsurf to be able to do and some of those things will require access to the VS Code codebase. Their decision to handle everything means users will always have access to the latest/greatest. Fantastic job - congrats to everyone on the team!

IDE is great. Somehow I cannot use dev containers inside windsurf. it gives error Command 'Dev Containers: Reopen in Container' resulted in an error (UriError): If a URI contains an authority component, then the path component must either be empty or begin with a slash

I already replaced VSC with Windsurf and have seen a clear boost in output. Great launch guys!

I was just made aware of the new WindSurf editor from Codeium today. I experimented with it all day and I am very impressed. I worked on three different projects - an AI-based tool for BDD scenarios review and creation in Python, a Gherkin grammar parser using Raku, and new cache eviction algorithms (S3FIFO and Sieve) that I wanted to implement from scratch in Raku. The Agent experience offered by Cascade is awesome given the early stage of this feature. I worked in most cases and I only had to tweak it in some special circumstances. Kudos to the product designers.

this is fantastic! the cascade feature feels so natural, it’s like collaborating with a co-worker who has full knowledge of the codebase.

It just made my life easier and my job less secure (you already know why...) but after pairing this up with Ollama it really becomes is a great assistant in writing re-usable code, comments, and documentation.

❤️. Thank you Windsurf team, now i can code without coder brain. 🫡. I made an app already.

🔥 Just explored Windsurf, the agentic IDE concept is exactly what the AI dev community needs right now. The way it blends co-pilot efficiency with agent reasoning is next level. While building my own agent workflows, I’ve been relying on CodeLibrary.ai. it’s like a developer-side playbook for AI coding rules and MCP server patterns. Feels like we’re entering a new era of how developers build with AI this is a big leap forward.

The docs are really clear, which is a huge plus. Even as someone still learning about AI dev, I can see how useful this will be. Any plans for more component types?
