Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Matthias, the founder of Alpaca.
I built this because someone in my family started secondary school with a new Mac, and I couldn't find a single protection tool I actually trusted.
Every option I looked at had a catch — VPN and 3rd party DNS providers are not permitted by schools, Uni's and many workplaces. Also not compatible by moving your devices accross many networks.
So I went back to basics and built Alpaca.
**What Alpaca does:**
→ Blocks harmful websites, predatory trackers, malware, and ads before they load
→ Works across every app and browser — not just one tab
→ All filtering happens locally on your Mac
→ No VPN. No kernel extension
→ 2-minute setup. Then it just works, quietly, every day.
**Who it's for:**
→ Parents with kids on Macs who want peace of mind without complexity
→ Privacy-conscious users tired of being tracked across every site
→ Anyone who's handed a family member a Mac and wondered what they might find online
**Pricing:**
Free trial available — no credit card needed. Paid plans start from there.

**What I'd love your feedback on:**
1. Is the setup flow genuinely as simple as it can be?
2. Are there categories you'd expect that aren't there?
3. Would you use this for your own household?

Brutal honesty welcome — this community's feedback is the most useful I'll get anywhere. Thank you for being here. 🦙
Really needed this. Does it slow down the Mac at all?
@daniel_rachlin No performance issues. We are using it on 5 Macs now, and it runs like a cat.
Now that the boys are in high school, we need something to limit their gaming. Found it in Alpaca. Best, I can control the sites they can access and turn off others.
How do I select certain websites to block and not others?
