Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm Steven, a freelance 3D/motion designer from Bern, Switzerland. BillHawk started as a fix for my own most expensive habit: unbilled hours. The pattern was always the same. Ten minutes of client email here, a "quick" After Effects fix there, a revision on a Friday evening. None of it ever reached an invoice, because starting a timer was the last thing on my mind while working. By Sunday I'd be scrolling file timestamps trying to reconstruct my week. Tracking runs whenever one is frontmost, pauses on idle/lock/sleep, and resumes the same session to the second. 🧾 Sessions carry their client and project, so invoicing is a selection, not an act of memory — export a PDF with your logo and rates in two clicks. ✉️ Optional Email Intelligence reads Apple Mail *locally* (English + German) and finds project requests, accepted quotes and payments. An accepted quote can become a draft invoice. It never sends anything itself. 🔒 Local-first for real: native Swift (no Electron), notarized, one local data file. No account, no cloud, no telemetry, no screenshots, no keylogging. For the technically curious: the Mail feature uses the macOS Automation permission, never Full Disk Access. Pricing is a deliberate bet: $29 one-time for the first 200 customers (then $49), no subscription, works on 3 Macs. Finally a time tracker that gets out of my way, the auto pause when I step away actually works and the local Mail scanning picked up a client reply I would've totally missed. Worth the one-time price.

I'm a freelance 3D/motion designer in Bern, and for years my honest answer was: more than I wanted to admit.
