I’m about to start surgical training, and over the past year I noticed that the business of life often led to sacrificing time spent on relationships. There are people in my life I genuinely care about, family members, teammates, old friends, mentors who helped me get here, but I’m already not great at consistently checking in. Not because I don’t want to, but because weeks turn into months before I realize I haven’t reached out. And looking ahead at surgical training, I know the schedule isn’t going to make that easier. So I started thinking about whether there was a way to front-load the effort while things are calm. Write thoughtful messages in my own words, decide who I want to stay in touch with, and set when those check-ins should go out. That’s what Check/In became. You write the messages yourself. You choose the people and the cadence. The app sends one initiation at the time you set, and then it completely steps aside; every reply and conversation stays fully human. No AI, just genuine connection. It’s not about outsourcing relationships. For me it’s just a small way to make sure the people who helped me get here don’t slowly drift out of my life as training gets busier.
