Hi PH 👋 I'm Mike, the solo dev behind ClauseCheck.
WHY I BUILT IT: Two years ago I signed a consulting SOW with a "standard" IP assignment clause. Three months later the client claimed ownership of an open-source tool I'd built years earlier. Cost me $8K in legal fees to untangle. I realized every freelancer has a story like this — but we keep signing because reading every clause feels impossible and lawyers cost more than the contract.
WHAT IT DOES: ClauseCheck scans SOWs, MSAs, and NDAs and flags 15 clause types that actually screw freelancers. Not generic "this looks off" — specific flags like "IP assignment without carveout" with an explanation of why it matters and suggested replacement language you can paste straight into your reply.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Paste contract text or upload PDF/DOCX — parsed in your browser
2. AI checks against 15 freelancer-specific clause categories in ~10 seconds
3. Copy redlines for flagged clauses or draft a negotiation email in one click
THE PRIVACY THING: Your file never touches our servers. PDF/DOCX parsing runs client-side with pdf.js. Contract text is sent for analysis, then discarded — not stored, not used for training. I built this for legal documents where privacy actually matters.
PRICING: Free tier gets 5 scans/month. Pro is $3.99/month for unlimited scans + redlines + negotiation email drafts. First 500 Product Hunters get lifetime access for $39 — pay once, use forever.
WHAT I WANT FROM YOU: Try the demo (no signup) and tell me what clause I'm missing. What's the one contract trap that burned you? I want the 16th clause category.

The IP assignment story is exactly why this product needs to exist. The problem is not that freelancers do not care about contracts. The problem is that the cost of understanding a contract is a lawyer and the contract is often worth less than what a lawyer charges to review it. So people sign and hope. Your pricing at $3.99 a month breaks that equation completely.
I build DocMetrics — a document analytics and e-signature platform for freelancers and consultants — and the moment a client signs is the end of my product's job and the beginning of yours. The contract has been sent, tracked, signed. Now the terms inside it are what matter. That handoff point between signature and execution is where your tool lives.
To answer your question about the 16th clause — termination for convenience without notice period. I have seen freelancers get burned by contracts where the client can terminate immediately with no payment for work in progress simply by saying the project is no longer convenient. There is no IP story to untangle but there is a month of unbilled work that disappears overnight. Especially dangerous in longer retainer agreements where the freelancer has deprioritised other clients based on the assumed income.
The demo with no signup is the right call. Anyone who needs this tool enough to try it is already suspicious of giving their data to something new. You removed the friction at exactly the right moment.
Congrats on building something genuinely needed Mike.
