🌿 Why I Built This
I built CornStarch AI after three moments that shook me.
First, my twin sister broke out in a severe rash from a skin cream. We later discovered it contained an FDA-recalled chemical she was dangerously allergic to. She had spent hours trying to decode the label — but it read like a science textbook.
Then, I started having gut issues. A friend mentioned glycemic sensitivity, so I checked my go-to yogurt. Just milk and water, right? Wrong. The third ingredient was modified cornstarch. I’d been eating it daily—and it was wrecking my stomach.
Finally, when I built the first beta of the app, I scanned my allergy meds — pills I’d trusted for years without a second thought. That’s when I learned the FDA only requires active ingredients to be listed. Hidden inside were titanium dioxide and aluminum — chemicals linked to gut and hormone issues. I felt betrayed. I was sick of reading confusing ingredient labels filled with chemical gibberish.

With the amount of absolute trash in the food we’re consuming day to day, an app like this is so useful. From food dyes to pesticides to massive quantities of processed sugars, even foods we think of as being “healthy” could be no better than poison. Being able to actually tell what’s in the food we’re eating, and the effects of it, is one of the most helpful things I’ve seen recently.
