This is exciting. A trend I've noticed in recent years is that doctors' offices are very, very reluctant to give patients a prescription document that they can take anywhere -- they want to send their prescription directly to a provider. But of course that makes it impossible to shop around. Some providers will do some research to find discount coupons; others won't; and still others depend on who is working the desk at that particular time. I wonder if CostPlus has any guidance on getting portable prescription documents from doctors? It would be helpful to know if they are supposed to give me them if I ask by law, if it's up to them (and therefore, should I ask when I'm reaching out to a new doctor's office), etc.

the two drugs that are killing me on price are Latuda and Viibryd. I was disappointed that those two aren't in the drug list.

I'd take the pricing with a huge pinch of salt. Checking my coverage with cigna on a HDHP for imatinib 100mg for 30 days they're quoting $1,516.94 but if I look on GoodRX it's $40 from Vons. Just because the wholesale price is X doesn't mean you'd pay that even without insurance. I think the myriad pricing structures is just one part of the insanity. I can pay $40 with a coupon or I can pay Mark $47 without a coupon. So much effort required to check pricing and as someone else mentioned a lot of doctors don't want to give you a prescription because they're incentivized to send it direct to a pharmacy which is fine if you're able to check their pricing first because coupons matter

As with most low-cost options, everything is great as long as you follow the happy path, but as soon as you need anything different, all bets are off. In my case, I realized that due to a weird refill schedule at my previous pharmacy, I was going to run out of one of my four medications towards the end of a three-month overseas trip. On my doctor's advice, I emailed CostPlus on Tuesday to see if I could get an early refill, and only just now (Friday) got a response directing me to call Customer Service and press the number for prescribers. Finally talked to a representative, then a pharmacist, who said he would see what he could do, but I'm concerned the refill won't reach me before I leave in a week. Three stars because they're good as long as you don't need anything special, and because I did actually finally manage to talk to a human who could help. Just make sure you deal with them well in advance and have a backup plan in case they're too slow.
