CoverMyCamera is software privacy for your MacBook’s built-in camera and microphone an alternative to plastic lens covers that can damage the display when closed. One click covers and stops the camera from being accessible and mutes the mic system wide. It runs locally, collects no product telemetry, and fails open so camera access restores if the app stops. One-time license; up to 3 Macs.
Quick question for you on the fails-open behavior: if the app crashes or I quit it manually while the camera is blocked, does the mic un-mute right away or stay muted until I reopen the app and toggle it off?
@glsm1e7p Thanks for asking. If CoverMyCamera quits or crashes while privacy is on, it fails open: the camera block is released so the built-in camera is usable again without reopening the app. Mic mute is cleared the same way — you shouldn’t be left muted after the app stops. If you ever see different behavior on your Mac, email support@covermycamera.app with the macOS version and I’ll dig in.
Does the failsafe open up automatically if the app crashes, or do I have to relaunch it manually to get my camera back?
