There is a weekly news segment on Miami local news called the Channel 10 "Dirty Dining" Report and since New York City has more restaurants than any place in the United States, I thought that it'd be a great idea to create an app that exposes the hundreds of unsanitary restaurants that fail food safety inspections every month because of rats, roaches, e.coli, cross-contamination, etc.. People want and should be able to have this information at their fingertips.

@chris_robinson10 Thanx Chris, I spent about a month learning the Python programming language along with a few libraries for data fetching and processing. I used Pandas dataframes extensively and there is some integration with the Google Places API for grabbing restaurant images, when available, and for converting addresses into latitude and longitude points that are used to plot map markers. My biggest issue in building this app was that Python didn't always play well with some of the older libraries that I tried to use initially, and also, since I'm a noob to Python I'm sure my rookie mistakes made the app development take a lot longer than it would have otherwise.

@ricardo_luz Before making the Dirty Dining NYC app I made the "Dirty Dining Near Me" app which also works in the entire state of Florida. I have plans to expand it to a few more cities whenever I have time. The big problem with expanding to other cities is that some states, counties and/or municipalities do not provide their food safety inspection results, and even when they do, it takes a considerable amount of effort to process the raw data (which varies from city to city) into usable data that can be fed to the app's back-end. What city are you in Ricardo?
