Hello Product Hunt community! 👋
Today I'm relaunching DocDecoder after 9 months of development!
DocDecoder reads privacy policies, terms of service, etc. so you don't have to 🤯
It uses GPT-4o to generate clear, legalese-free summaries of any website's legal policies, on the fly.
It tells you exactly what you're agreeing to and even color-codes the negative, neutral, and positive clauses 🔴⚫🟢
You can preview summaries by searching for any website on this page.
Try it out – it's free, and I believe it can make a real difference in how you interact with website policies.
Thank you for checking it out!

@joshwallerr Hey Josh, congrats on the relaunch of DocDecoder! This tool sounds super handy—finally, a way to make sense of those endless privacy policies without the headache. The color-coding feature is a nice touch; it’s great to see exactly what’s buried in the fine print at a glance. How does it handle really complex or lengthy documents? Does it summarize everything equally well?
Congrats on the launch @joshwallerr ! Does DocDecoder generate the text on the spot everytime or how does it handle updates or changes in the legal policies of a website it was already used on?
@lumi_nertan Hi Lumi, yes it generates the summary on the spot.
Every time a new summary is generated it replaces the old version of that policy's summary.
I'm in the process of adding a feature where each policy will be dated, and users will be able to click a button to refresh the summary if a policy has been updated since it was last summarised.

Oooh I like this! Silly question - sometimes these terms include things to see who actually reads them... Can your system pull that out? Interested to know how often that sort of easter egg is actually part of the terms haha.

Do you cache the responses or regenerate for everyone, on the fly? This seems like a hard but fun problem to solve, love to see it!
@nick_potts2 Thank you 😄. Yes the summaries are cached once they've been generated. I need to add a feature to refresh the summaries to handle cases where the policy has been updated since it was last summarised.

@joshwallerr Would you not just hash it and store it against the hash vs the actual site/url?

What a cool launch. Honestly I don't see a reason not t try this - plus it's free. The product I never knew I needed.
Congrats on your launch @joshwallerr!! I tried it, and found DocDecoder is here to save us all from legalese nightmares! It worked with Japanese terms of services as well. I think it would be great if it supports summaries in other languages! Thanks you for your great tool 🚀
