Dottie is the AI layer Apple should have built into macOS. It runs entirely on your Mac. Free. No subscription. No cloud required.
What it does: Say "Hey Dottie, buy tickets for the Giants game" -it sees your screen, reads the schedule, and takes action.
I built 134 tools across email, messages, calendar, web, files, photos, music, and system control. All through voice or text.
Why it's different: Every other AI agent on this page is cloud-first or single-purpose. Dottie is the full stack:
Voice-native -wake word, push-to-talk, live transcription, TTS. Not bolted on.
Local inference -3,800+ MLX models on Apple Silicon. Zero API cost. Or bring your own keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Cerebras, Ollama).
Permission-gated -15 categories, all default OFF. You approve what it can see. Per-app.
Shared memory -context persists across conversations and apps. Gets smarter over time.
App Store + SDK -developers ship AI apps with HTML/JS. Each app declares permissions. Users approve per-app. Reviewed before listing.
Why now: Local Models getting very good at function calling. Apple Silicon made local LLM inference fast.
