@bauermetal we use a mix of checks that include distance or steps (depending on the feeding app - whether its GPS based or motion sensing) along with other checks like duration, time stamp of travel etc. We add more checks as we go. Having said all that, its not extremely hard to earn points and in the absence of detail the system is likely to be lenient.
@bkvirendra thanks for the reply. Just another thing i noticed upon signing up. The app decided a gender and birthday for me instead of either 1) including it in on-boarding or 2) defaulting those fields to empty values. I found it odd that i was listed as a female that was born in September 1986 if I were to never intervene.
@bauermetal Thanks for signing up! That's definitely a bug in our latest iOS app that's just undergone a major re-haul. While we fix it, if it helps, worth knowing that your demographic info is not shared anywhere on the app :-) We let the users fill it as part of their account info because it helps us show them more relevant rewards over time. This is also why it's missing from onboarding so that signup can be as simple as possible. But to your point it absolutely needs to be either self-filled or blank to start with!

I'll definitely check this out. I've been using Sweatcoin for about a month, but the rewards are very limited. Only 3-4 options (2 of which are always the same), and the others are only available in San Fran. Does Earthmiles have a daily cap like Sweatcoin does?
@krisryanwhite heya Kris, do give it a whirl and tell us what you thought. Sweatcoin is a great idea, but very different from us. We are still in beta in the US so you will see little English-isms all over the place (like kilometers) which will disappear soon. Most of our rewards are e-commerce enabled that can be purchased anywhere, with some familiar local rewards thrown in.
We do checks on the data we pull in for speed, duration, and a bunch of other things to discard spurious data so some really large activities may get discarded. You will see it on your profile and be able to flag that it should not have been, and we then check more data to verify it.

Been using it for a month or so... Big fan of the concept, and the UX - especially since their last update! It's a great way to discover healthy products and save some money buying them - I like how it tells you exactly how much you'll save. The 'Stories' tab, delivering fitness- and health-related news, is a nice added touch.
@anthony_abitbol Hey Anthony, great to hear you are liking it so far. Glad you like the UX as its been a huge focus lately for us. We are making some more changes to the experience shortly to make it even easier to redeem rewards. Watch this space :)
Alex, thanks for hunting us :-) We're very excited to introduce Earthmiles to the Product Hunt community.
Earthmiles is a free app on iOS / Android available in the UK and the US. Although we are in beta in the US, there will be a fully customised US app very soon.
Just like air miles for flying, you earn earthmiles for moving on the ground. Currently you can earn earthmiles for walking, running and cycling. Sync any of your favourite trackers like Fitbit or Jawbone, oor your native smartphone apps like Apple Health or S Health, to start earning.
You'll find over 300 hand-picked brands offering unique rewards to spend your earthmiles on. We work with large well-known brands like Runners Need, USN and Planet Organic, and also small, high-quality SMEs you will love discovering.
Rewards are added every couple days to keep users excited about what they could earn next. All the rewards are chosen to help improve your physical, mental, emotional well-being - everything in there is good for you! We especially enjoy supporting ethical and sustainable businesses on our platform.
We look forward to your feedback.

Awesome! I'm that lazy guy who always needs some incentives to focus on fitness :) Please tell me that you are launching this in India soon *fingers crossed*
I met the founders of Earthmiles at Google Campus London a couple of weeks ago after they were chosen as 1 of 10 Best of British Startups by Google. They've got a great team and the product is awesome.
If you're using a fitness tracking app, there's really no reason you shouldn't be using Earthmiles too :)
