Elqi is an app that through conscious interventions lowers social media addiction, cutting down doom scrolling and limiting screen time. Dopamine-driven phone sessions are cut short as Elqi turns technology back into a tool - not an escape.
Hey Product Hunt Family ✌️,
After 6 months of stealth mode hard coding, we are happy to launch the Elqi App that will help you to win back valuable screen time. After catching myself doom scrolling and loosing self control over my phone I decided to build a solution to win back my own mind.
With Elqi me and all tester have reported immense improvement in their Screen Time. As a lot of apps nowadays have been designed to make you release as much dopamine as possible it was important to me to build a tool against this mechanism.
Elqi gives you the control over your phone back, which a lot of us have been missing. How do we do that?
👉 we intervene before doom scrolling
👉 conscious exercise prior to addictive app use
👉 enforce reflective phone behaviour
Start saving valuable life time now!
I hope Elqi brings you as much joy and peace as I intended it to. Let us know of any feedback you would like to share.
Mert ✌️

@mert_elqi Eager to experience it! Congratulations on the successful launch!

Congrats! Have you conducted any studies or research to validate its effectiveness? Keep up the great work in helping us regain control over our phone usage!

Hey Mert, congrats!
One thing is not clear to me:
> 👉 we intervene before doom scrolling
How? Is this app going to pop when I try to open the Facebook app for example?
It would be nice to put a video or animation on the website and app store pictures about the flow from when I try to open a distracting app until this app shows up
@pppdns Hey Denes, that is exactly what we do. Currently working on our second version dropping end of March which will have even further functions to build on that. And the video is good advice! Unfortunately can not put it on the AppStore due to regulations (cant show other apps) but definitely worth considering vor our website. Thank!
I like the idea, it looks a lot like the onesec app and other screen time apps which I've tried but churn pretty quickly. My issue with these app blocking tools is that they basically just try to make the phone as frustrating / annoying to use as possible, and it's very tempting to disable the tool quickly. Similar to the built in iOS screen time limits that everybody just ignores. How is Elqi different from these existing tools?

Just downloaded this app last night and its already been super helpful. I've been a lot more mindful with my social media app usage and can't wait to see how much I reduce my screen time! The functionality is also great, its so easy to set up.
@scarlett_marie_never Thank you Scarlett, let us know how much time it is saving you after using it for some time. Super happy that we could help you be more mindful.

Always in support of the cause for reducing screentime. Curious how your approach differs from apps like Opal.
@sepandnorouzi Hey Sepand, Opal is an app that simply allows you to block apps. There is no conscious effort to train the person to have more healthier phone usage. We take it a step further by not making Social Media inaccessible but simply more conscious. Does that make sense?

Hey @mert_elqi - love the product! my twitter usage immediately dropped, so didn't hesitate to sub and test it on more apps.
Couple of feedbacks in order of importance:
1. your "give feedback" button doesn't work in the app. at least on ios16, which could be important since you just launched.
2. Partial blocking for the apps. e.g. Not forcing the delay for button display until user has opened that app X number of times already. As another person said in the comments, if blocking gets too annoying, people might just quit and un-sub. Like, sometimes you have to go on an app to check something you saved or answer a message quickly. Partial blocking means people are still interrupted but not delayed, unless they've shown addictive behaviour throughout the day.
2. Longer blocking for certain hours and for certain apps. e.g. 10 breaths to access YouTube after 10pm on week nights.
3. Integration with Apple Health so the breathing counts as meditation minutes. This is very useful for people who take meditation seriously. Almost all relaxation and meditation apps have this.
4. Customizable breath count for different apps. I think apps you addicted to, could use longer delays.
5. Built in goal tracker and streak counter. e.g. Not breaking "Resist" more than X number of times to keep the streak.
6. Displaying a Mindfulness quote as a pseudo-substitute for the fix you get from social media posts perhaps.
