Ente Auth is a free, open source and cross platform 2FA app designed to offer a great experience to two factor users. With innovative features like encrypted backups, next code, sharing, notes, Ente Auth is recommended by CERN and Linus Tech Tips.
Huge fan of Ente Auth.
Ever since Authy killed their desktop app, I've been using Auth to store my 2FA codes.
Earlier I used to manage to install Authy on my MacBook using the App Store (iPhone version), but now it’s unavailable too.
Great UX, fully open source, amazing devs and best of all, free backups!
Thanks for building it!
Congrats on the launch to @vishnukvmd@neeraj_ente and the entire Ente team! 🎉
It's clear you've put a lot of thought into creating a privacy-first solution for photo and file storage. In a world where data breaches are increasingly common, having end-to-end encrypted storage like Ente offers a strong sense of security for users who value privacy. The focus on making privacy accessible without compromising usability is commendable!
A couple of questions I had about your roadmap and vision for the product:
1.Expansion into video storage: Are there plans to expand your encrypted services to include videos or larger file formats, as these are becoming more integral to personal and business use? What kind of challenges do you foresee with encrypted video hosting in terms of scalability or bandwidth, and how do you plan to address them?
2.Backup and recovery mechanisms: Given that privacy is a key concern for your user base, how do you plan to approach backup and recovery systems in a way that doesn’t compromise encryption or give third-party access? Are there any innovative methods you're exploring in this area?
Now, onto some constructive feedback:
I love how simple and clean your interface is—there’s an elegance in its minimalism. That said, I noticed the onboarding process could be streamlined further. For instance, new users might appreciate more guided tutorials or tooltips explaining how to leverage key features like sharing encrypted files with non-users. This can help reduce friction for those who are new to encrypted storage.
Suggestion:
1. Consider adding an interactive walkthrough on first login or contextual help pop-ups during key actions to help users get familiar with the platform quickly. This small change might lead to higher engagement and retention, especially among users who are transitioning from less secure platforms.
2. Additionally, I noticed there's no live chat support option on the site. Implementing a customer support chatbot could help users get instant answers to common questions and improve their experience, especially for troubleshooting or understanding features. It would reduce wait times and make support more accessible.
All in all, you've built something truly valuable with Ente, and I’m excited to see how it grows! 🙌
@uvkewate Thanks for the feedback!
1. E2EE video streaming is not a solved problem, but we are working on this. We should have the first version ready early next year (if not late this year).
2. We intend to provide social recovery, where you can assign a trusted contact who can help with recovery without compromising E2EE.
Thanks for the suggestions as well, walkthroughs are good to have, and we'll see how we can integrated a privacy preserving chat service into the website (perhaps https://github.com/chatwoot/chat...).
