I've been designing for over two decades and personally I feel Figma has knocked it out of the ballpark. I've used Figma since 2017 and made the decision to transition from Sketch to Figma for a product team of over a dozen designers. I was sold once I started using the prototyping features that made interactive demos a breeze. The property settings, MUI component integration, community plugins, overall design features makes this design tool the only one to use for product design. Kudos to the product team that built this amazing app.

If you often work offline, or deal with huge design systems with many assets, you’ll want to be aware of limitations like performance lag and connectivity dependence.

Before choosing Figma, we also explored tools like Sketch, Adobe XD, and Penpot. Sketch had great plugins but felt more Mac-dependent and less collaborative. Adobe XD was promising but lacked the seamless multiplayer experience. Penpot is open-source and exciting, but Figma’s polish and real-time features won us over. If you’re looking for a powerful design and prototyping tool, we highly recommend giving Figma a shot!

Through not from a designer background, but Figma is really easy to get started. I have some really pages design completed with Figma, especially now with ChatGPT and Claude. It gives me a draft based on my input, then I can directly paste it in Figma and update. This is a very smooth workflow, I am not good at the commands and blocks and design elements, AI helps to solve it. Then AI is terrible at iteration, Figma solves it. What a pair!
