Figma set the modern baseline for collaborative, browser-first product design—fast sharing, multiplayer editing, and design systems in one place. But the alternatives landscape is less about “another Figma” and more about choosing a philosophy: Sketch prioritizes a crisp, native macOS workflow; Penpot leans into open-source independence and closer design-to-code alignment; UXPin goes further with code-based components and more realistic, stateful prototyping; Uizard targets AI-first ideation for non-designers; and Lunacy emphasizes offline, local files and cross-platform access—often with a lower (or free) price point.
In evaluating these options, we focused on collaboration quality (including coediting and commenting), performance and platform support, offline/local-file workflows, design-system and developer handoff depth, ecosystem maturity (plugins, assets, imports/exports), learning curve, and overall cost/value for both solo creators and teams.
