Hey everyone! A while back, I needed to shrink a scanned contract before emailing it. So I opened one of the usual free PDF sites, uploaded the file, and hit go. Right as it started processing, I had a thought: that file had my signature and home address on it. Where was it sitting now, and how long would it stay there? I looked around for a simple file tool that didn't require me to upload the file first. I couldn't really find one, so I decided to build it myself. That's how FileCrisp started. FileCrisp processes your files directly in your browser using WebAssembly. Your files don't need to be uploaded to a server, they stay on your device while the processing happens locally. And you don't have to simply take my word for it. Open your browser's Network tab while using a tool and check for yourself: your files aren't being uploaded. It started with one small PDF tool that I needed for myself. Once that worked, I kept adding more image tools, PDF tools, and eventually a document scanner. All built around the same idea: useful file tools without handing your files over to a server. I'm still the only person working on FileCrisp.
