Fireside has become one of my fav annual conferences - I found that it was a real way to connect with the other entrepreneurs, and spend a weekend learning and sharing our experiences, inspiring other young ambitious leaders and in the process, ourselves as entrepreneurs. I'm excited to be back this year!

Considering Bermuda is only a 3 hour flight from Toronto would you ever consider doing one here? Renting an island is surprisingly affordable.

Last year while I was travelling, I found out about an event outside of Toronto called Fireside. At the time, it sounded like a pipe dream to me.
Since I was about to leave my previous job, and this was an event that brought together investors, founders, and startups and threw them all together at a summer camp and took away all their gadgets for the whole weekend.
What I was excited for and expecting was a weekend filled with incredible people in startups and tech. I was excited to disconnect, go water skiing, hear some awesome talks, and just go to this event knowing literally not a single other person there.
What I didn’t expect was how that lack of technology and social hierarchy would create an incredible environment for forming deep, meaningful relationships with people in the most unexpected ways possible. The relationships I built at that event were without a doubt the foundation of my career as the Community Manager at Lighthouse Labs today.
To this day, every event I go to, the people I always am the tightest with are those I met at Fireside in 2016.
Really really looking forward to another incredible experience in 2017.
Loved being at Fireside last year - definitely a special event for the tech community. Highly recommend to those looking to form meaningful relationships and join a great community.

Fireside is a captivating experience for humans.
It is so starkly contrasted with ordinary conferences that I feel it's unfair to even call Fireside a conference, because it offers so much more.
While they serve their purpose (and not to knock them), ordinary conferences:
- are generally big-building affairs, organized by professionals, catering to a mass-market budget and process
- offer the fast-food equivalent of a meet-and-greet, sit-and-listen, with the cordial business card exchanges, and draining afternoons staring at mobile phones under the table
- capture 1% of the environment needed for what the human brain needs to optimally engage higher level social and cognitive functions
Set in a camp in the beautiful wilderness of Canada, almost outside cell phone range, Fireside has 100% of the environment needed for a human brain to be energized and engaged, opening that rare opportunity in our modern society to truly expand the mind and learn what it is to be human — to engage in meaningful interpersonal relationships, to discover who you are with a glimpse of what matters in life.
I recommend it.
