How do you factor in elements like tannins and volatile compounds in your algorithm to tailor suggestions? I’d love to learn more about the scientific basis behind your recommendations and how they relate to the chemistry of wine! Great work on the launch!

We use a FOSS machine to analyze key components of a wine, such as sugar content, acidity, alcohol, along with other parameters to create SOMM scores for the wine (such as Body, Acidity, Fruit Intensity, and Tannin or Sweetness). We then take ratings a user provides on specific wines, and leverage a chemical breakdown of those wines to create personalized recommendations of wines with similar components you might enjoy based on what you like and don't like. Your WinePrint™ includes several key components: - A personalized phrase summarizing your tastes (for example, mine says, "You might enjoy medium-bodied red wines with a harmonious balance of acidity, gentle tannins, and medium fruitiness."). - A ranking on a scale of 1-5 for body, acidity, fruit intensity, and either tannin (for reds) or sweetness (for whites). - A highlight of your top tasting notes. - A breakdown of your favorite wine varieties. - An overview of your most-loved wine regions. Your WinePrint™ evolves as you rate more wines. Whether you loved a wine or wouldn’t choose it again, every rating helps us refine your recommendations and ensure your WinePrint™ reflects your changing preferences. Very cool to see a new approach here! Before Product Hunt, I was a product manager for Delectable and Banquet by Delectable , as well as working for Wine-Searcher for a bit. I see the founders are from Lot18 (I had a friend Katy on the early team there!). There have been a ton of different approaches to wine preferences and taste profiles, and to my knowledge none of them have had as big an impact as the scan-to-see-ratings apps have. Where do you think Vivino (and apps like Delectable) got it wrong?

While other apps focus on providing wine information (Delectable) or recommending based on aggregate user ratings (Vivino), we focus on recommending wines tailored to your unique taste palate. Our app brings the same proprietary technology that made Firstleaf America's most personalized wine club to everyone, for free, helping you find great wines anywhere. I like the look of this a lot - It seems quite similar to Vivino, an app that I've had before but they're more focused on price etc. that taste & the actual enjoyment of the wine. Needless to say I don't use Vivino a whole lot but this would be far more up my street in terms of finding out what other people like about the wine.
