Take measurable climate action, by accessing ecosystem restoration projects at scale, while minimizing the risk of greenwashing.
Through our web application, you can estimate how many trees are needed to compensate for average emissions in your country, choose a plan to gradually build towards your personal net zero, and track your positive climate impact. We'll handle planting :)

Hello everyone!
I’m excited to present Green Wedge, which allows you to access sustainable carbon removal projects, that are based on ecosystem restoration.
We want to give an opportunity to environmentally conscious individuals, to take personal climate action on the proper scale.
Through our web application, you can estimate how many trees are needed to compensate for average emissions in your country, choose a plan to gradually build towards your personal net zero, and track your positive climate impact. We'll handle planting :)
Instead of one-time offsets, we offer yearly carbon recapture rates, connected to the growth of the trees. We also take anti-greenwashing measures, striving to make an actual land cover change instead of reforesting industrial plantations, and we include trees survivability rate in our impact calculations.
We decided on subscriptions, as it is easier to stick with them, as tangible climate impact requires a proper scale and therefore time and/or resources. The upside of planting trees is, that they don’t disappear after canceling a subscription, so they will still recapture CO2 for you!
The initial idea came up while browsing Reddit, where one Redditor shared their environmental impact tracking spreadsheet, but wasn’t sure how to properly include the compensation from recently bought trees. The organization from which they bought those trees didn’t provide reliable information on their impact and how it is spread in time, so I started researching this topic more and found out, that there are many services that either overestimate their impact or even use creative carbon accounting.
I also strongly believe, that while we have to keep pressing decisionmakers to enact systemic changes, we may take complementary individual actions to speed up the transformation.
The app wouldn’t be possible without the support from the Social Tides Aspire incubation program, which allowed me to team up with @martiinii .
We plan to further develop our application, including adding a blog as a knowledgebase, maps to show where we'll be planting, and implementing WCAG standards.
I encourage you to join our project and spread the word, so we’ll be able to reach a critical mass of positive impact as soon as possible!

@hamza_afzal_butt Thank you! It is important to us, to make an actual change in carbon balance in the long-term and not finance something, that the forestry industry will do nonetheless as a part of their production cycle.

@hamza_afzal_butt It is challenging sometimes to make even slight progress.
Was a "rooting" pun intended? 😄

@karl_mechkin congratulations on the launch of green-wedge, Would love to know what was the motivation behind the startup, what got you to work on this in the first place?

@bilalasif It started while browsing Reddit, where one person shared their climate impact spreadsheet, and wasn't sure how to include the impact of trees planted through one organization. This led me to extensive research on that topic, and I found, that many organizations offering carbon offsets and planting trees don't provide good feedback on the impact and often overestimate it.
I also believe, that while pressing policy- and decisionmakers to enact and implement systemic changes, we can take individual actions to accelerate transformation.
Awesome Karl! Let's tackle climate crisis through this kind of projects. I'm so proud of seeing you addressing this and hope everybody can see the same. All the best!

@german_merlo1 Thank you! It's important to provide people with an opportunity to take climate action at a proper scale. Many people may want to get involved in tackling climate crisis, but don't know what can be done to have a tangible impact. At the same time, it's important to minimize the risk of greenwashing to keep those actions effective.
This is fantastic, @karl_mechkin! The focus on genuine ecosystem restoration and long-term carbon recapture is exactly what we need. The transparency in your approach is refreshing. How do you plan to expand Green Wedge's impact globally and engage more communities in this initiative?

@renchu_song That's the tricky part! We are currently applying to one of the accelerators focused on carbon removal projects, so there is potential for networking and advice. Also plan to try a new advertising strategy to better reach potentially most interested people.
