Interesting app. Having listened to Julia Hartz on How I built this recently, I’d love to hear what changes you guys had to face in your industry throughout the pandemic? I am imagining there has been a quite a drop in event management planning for live events and a shift towards virtual events?
@ryanchaliff you can read about that here! https://www.indiehackers.com/pos...
Definitely took a heavy hit. And while we'll do what we need to adapt to the new normal, we certainly have our sights set on when in-person events return. 🤞🤞
Love your product demo. Apart from the guest list and message board, what features do you see are most popular for users who plan upcoming events and how does the “Deals” or “accomodation” tools work?
@jesmith Thanks! The Schedule tool is far and away the most popular. Being able to gather RSVPs on a per-item basis is utilized by many to get a better sense of headcount.
Deals is a discovery marketplace intended to be helpful and save guests money. The benefit here being, we don't need to gather ANY user data to serve highly-targeted goods and services. Simply knowing the event type and the city the event is being held in is more than enough information to match them with great partners of ours, that are perfectly suited to that occasion. (Deals shown on a bachelorette party event are quite different than a conference).
Accomodations is similar - just a handy interactive price map that shows available Airbnbs & hotels near the event location on that given date. Can take the pressure off a bride/groom to have to arrange hotel blocks, etc.

Used this to plan a weekend trip with some college friends, and it was extremely easy to use. We didn’t have to use long text message threads or annoying Facebook events. Highly recommend.
Congrats on your journey Peter and team! Been using the web app (Android user here) and had some notes:
1. Would like to see maybe a logical grouping or arrangement of the widgets selected. Scrolling through, especially initially when you are not quite familiar with each widget's capability is somewhat of a detractor
2. Apart from the deals, I didn't really see how segmenting event types changes event creation/management workflows. Am i missing something here?
3. Photo Wall: If I can upload pics through the Board as well as Chat, then why would I need this? Do i get a collage/easy IG sharing/any other photo specific capabilities with the Photo Wall?
4. Board: Option to 'Assign to Group' . What are these groups? How do I create them and for what would I need a group if I already have selected the people who i want to include/invite to my event?
5. Credits: If a guest says 'Attending' and I remove the guest, do i get the credit back?
A solid product. Excited to see how you guys progress. Cheers!
Heyo! Thanks @kevin for hunting us! (Everyone go wish him a happy birthday :)
We began this bootstrapped journey in 2018, when we were frustrated by the fact that:
❌ a pretty invitation just wasn’t enough for certain events
❌ we hadn’t checked / used Facebook Events in years
❌ we CURSED every nameless, 20-person group text we were pulled into.
We needed something in between a simple invite, and a full-fledged event management software… but was also easy to use, affordable, and suitable for both personal AND professional events.
⭐ And so Guestboard was born – a modular, intuitive event tool for connecting groups of 10 - 1000+. You can choose any/all of the following "widgets" to fit your needs:
• Event Details
• Schedule/Agenda
• Message Board
• Chat (like Slack)
• Photo Wall
• Accommodations map
• Shared Resources
• Collaborative Checklist
• Deals & Discounts related to your event type
• Video Chat (NEW!)
We initially focused on weddings– so guests could see who else was going, plan carpools, share flight deals, and ultimately feel more included. To this day, weddings remain one of our most common event types. But along the way, users started planning OTHER group events:
🍻 Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties
⛺ Camping Trips/ Music Festivals
🧘 Retreats (corporate, wellness, etc.)
🏫 Family/School Reunions
✈️ Group Travel/Guided Tours
🤝 Micro/Virtual Conferences
Obviously, with COVID, many of these use cases needed to move to virtual – which is why we launched our Video Chat widget most recently. With it, you can schedule and host multiple (and concurrent) video conferences all within Guestboard.
Would love your feedback or questions, so ask away!

I used Guestboard to plan/organize my bachelor party, and I would definitely use it again. I have friends from a lot of different groups, so it was really nice having our discussions, weekend schedule, flight info, etc. all in one place and not on a million different email/text chains.
