Hyoi is a lightweight macOS utility that automatically shows a floating shelf when you drag files. Drop files, images, or text temporarily, then drag them anywhere. Perfect for multi-step file operations without cluttering your desktop.

When i moved an file from finder to code editor, It was hard to drag and drop.

does the shelf disappear automatically once the file is moved out, or do you have to manually clear it?
I used and found this product to be useful. I have one question: why can't the file in the Hyoi be opened? If there are many similar files in the shelf, I may need to check the content before dragging it into another location I want.

@jay_good2025 Thanks for using it! It was meant to be a temporary holding place, so I didn’t plan on opening files. I’ll add support for this in a future update.

Nice idea.
The ability to change Hyoi's location on screen is essential. I have stuff on my desktop starting at the top right, once Hyoi has any content, I can't access the items that are covered by Hyoi without hiding Hyoi.

The "appears when you need it, vanishes when you don't" pattern is such good UX — invisible until the moment it's useful. Love the name origin too. These small Mac utilities that just solve one thing beautifully are my favorite kind of software

@yu_kikimura Been living with Hyoi a few days now and it's genuinely elegant. Quick feedback that could increase usability: the ability to move the shelf would be huge. I found myself wanting to drag files to spots it was covering, or drag to areas far away. Being able to reposition it closer would reduce mouse travel and open up a more comfortable workflow. Otherwise it's earned its spot on my Mac-- great concept, great execution 👏
