Thanks, @raunak_dembla! I think the main benefit over paper questions is that someone could submit 5 similar questions themselves to make a topic seem more urgent than it is. With absolute anonymity you're never sure how many people submitted questions. With anonymous aliases you don't know who the submitters are but you do know how many of them are there, and how many repeated questions you're getting.
