Thank you @markusgilles - I've been looking for an easy way to offset via solar cells and could not find anything. This is perfect!
Only point: Could you maybe get a trust partner like a government agency, a green bank or a large brand to guarantee that the money and the investments is screened and the projects survive no matter what happens to klima.com?
Hey @jakobsbo — thanks for the question! We work with the two most recognised international bodies for carbon certification, the Gold Standard and the Verified Carbon standard, who handle the carbon accounting and monitoring for all our projects and guarantee that each ton of CO2 is uniquely identified, measured, documented, and permanently reduced.

Great idea and excellent UX! The chat-like UI for calculating my carbon footprint felt very engaging.
I was wondering if Google/Apple take a cut on the subscription?
@ckuehrer Hi Christoph! Thank you so much, happy to hear that you like the UX.
Apple & Google are not taking a cut as offsetting is considered a "physical good" and therefor not eligible for in-app payments. Our payments are securely handled via Stripe instead.

Interesting concept, I'll go deeper in the analysis to check a few things I noticed.
Generally, I would not appreciate a fee to be considered "carbon free" and I don't think it can happen. Plus reducing CO2 in a place where I don't live it's part of the solution, but not a solution.
Could you please specify how the carbon footprint is "countered"?
Hey Claudio, you’re right that it’s impossible to live carbon free in our modern age — but you can live carbon neutral. And it’s one important part of the many solutions we need to solve climate change. The reason this works is because CO2, unlike other pollutants, quickly disperses all over the globe. So it actually doesn’t matter where a CO2 emission or reduction takes place — it’s all one atmosphere. Offsetting is then a way to net-out emissions in one place by funding carbon removal or capturing in another place. This allows us to take care of your footprints immediately, while working on zero emission solutions, which will take a long time. We share more details about our approach to offsetting and the projects we support here: https://klima.com/projects/

@markusgilles Hi Markus, thanks for your answer. I'm not sure that all your statements are correct, but somehow I understood what you mean and what's your aim with this product.
I'm worried that this could become a serotonin dispenser for emissions unaware subjects. I'll keep an eye on development, hoping to see more reliable information available on your website.
All the best, and wish you a happy working year.
@josselinco In general Neutral & Klima are generally quite similar of course. And I like Neutral. To be honest we expect more companies to launch in this field which we are really excited about. This topic needs as many entrepreneurs as possible to focus on.
To talk a bit about the differences: When I looked at Neutral I found it quite hard to use. The onboarding is generally a bit overloaded with setup. Too many requests, permissions, things that the app needs before a user can start. At Klima we're trying a different approach. We want to make it as easy as possible to become carbon neutral. And we even go a step further: once your offsetting subscription is active, we offer our users guidance on how to reduce their footprint in the longterm. In that sense, offsetting is the entry point for us to get people invested in the topic. But our longterm goal is to create a climate conscious community for maximum impact.
Hej, Jonas here, Co-Founder and Chief Product. Great to be launching on PH again! Ask me anything about the product, user experience, designs ✌️

@jonasbrandau Congrats on the launch!
You could allow us to sign up with a password instead of a link in terms of UX. I don't receive emails on my phone and had to download an email app just to sign in. Otherwise, the app is fantastic! 👍
@jonasbrandau@william_eckert Hi William, I hear you. We decided go with the magic link approach to ditch passwords once and for all. This makes flows much simpler (eg. retrieve a lost password), but it I see that it led to some extra friction in your case, sorry for that!
Report
@jonasbrandau@william_eckert I agree. Signing in through email is the better option for most users. 🙂
You could consider allowing your users to create a password if they prefer, like with Notion, where you get an OTP via email by default, but you can also create a password if you prefer.
👋 Hey Hunters!
I’m Markus, CEO and Co-Founder of Klima. After many months of research, design, and development, we’re stoked to launch our climate action app on Product Hunt. Let us know your thoughts! As a special thank you, we’ll plant a tree for everyone who shares their feedback here on PH with us today 🥳🌳
🔥 The Problem
Klima was born out of the realization that we need all hands on deck if we want a fighting chance to reach the 1.5°C Paris Agreement goal. And yet, while millions of individuals want to take climate action, there’s no easy enough way for everyone to do so. This leaves a massive potential immobilized.
🌍 Klima in a Nutshell
With Klima, everyone can become carbon neutral immediately and sustainably: Calculate your carbon footprint and offset it by supporting science-backed climate projects that remove or prevent the same emissions elsewhere. Next, learn how to shrink your footprint over time and watch your positive impact grow.
♥️ What Makes Klima Special
We’re big believers in the power of great UX to overcome friction. For carbon offsetting/reduction, it’s friction that keeps millions going from climate intention to climate action. To tackle this we religiously focused on “loveability” — creating the most simple, transparent, and rewarding user experience we could imagine.
💡 Feature Spotlight
🍃Carbon Calculator: Use our quick and fun chat tool to calculate your carbon footprint and understand the climate effects of your lifestyle.
🍃 Climate Subscription: Offset your footprint with a simple monthly subscription. Choose from nature, tech, or social impact projects that neutralize your emissions by reducing carbon elsewhere. All projects are independently measured, verified, and monitored by the highest international standards.
🍃 Climate Checklist: Go beyond offsetting by shrinking your footprint further. Get personalized tips from our Climate Checklist and reduce your subscription every time you commit to a sustainable lifestyle change.
🍃 Impact Transparency: Our live impact tracker shows your saved CO2 growing every day and shows how that translates to concrete measures on the ground, like the number of trees you planted, or the amount of clean electricity you made possible.
🍃 Shareability: No one is going to solve climate change alone. That’s why we’re building Klima to inspire others by putting social sharing front and center.
💫 The Big Vision:
Klima makes carbon-neutral living radically easy for everyone. But this is just the beginning. Our vision is to turn carbon neutrality into a mass movement and unleash the potential of individual action at scale. Next on the roadmap: social integration, community challenges, milestones, and gamification.
We can’t wait to hear your feedback and ideas!
@markusgilles Congratulations on the launch!
