Found a blog with food recommendations? a social media post with a must-visit cafe? Just toss those to Locator and boom - they're on a map. It's perfect for trip planning when recommendations pile up, or just when you want to save findings in a useful way.
In an afternoon slump of scrolling social media, a small itch of mine resurfaced: I love saving recommendations from posts and articles for future reference. Whether it's a travel itinerary, a new restaurant, or even a coffee shop, most of the places I visit come from something I saw online, usually shared by someone I follow. (I have been influenced 🤯)
But saving this content was always a hassle. I'd end up with a pile of saved posts on TikTok/Instagram or a disorganized mess of Chrome bookmarks. Every time I wanted to find a good spot for lunch or even plan for a half-day layover once in a while, I had to sift through all of that re-scanning Instagram posts or digging through bookmarks - just to find the one recommendation I had in mind.
If only (oh, the struggle) I could send whatever content I was looking at to a tool that would automatically extract the relevant locations. It could save them in a designated place - on a map - so I could easily come back to them when needed in the future.
And that's how "Locator" was born. Whether it's an amazing hiking trail, a taco shop, or a one-day Tokyo itinerary, you simply share it with the app, and it saves all the spots for you, neatly organized and auto-labeled on a map.
I shared my process with the #buildinpublic community on X and BlueSky, and a few months in - we launched the app for Android and iOS users.

Absolutely. I’ve faced the same frustration. It’s convenient to save everything in bookmarks, but retrieving what you need later can be quite challenging. Wish you good luck with the launch! 🎉

Very useful! I just got back from Spain, and it saved me a lot of time. The fact that there are all the places on the map is very practical!

This app is amazing! So useful.. Every time I see a post describing beautiful places to travel to or coffee houses I'd like to go visit I always either get a screenshot of that post or save it.. But then I have such a difficult time finding that post because it's being buried under many posts like it. This app made a huge difference and made it so easy to organize and find the places I want to save!! I'm using it all the time 😍😍
Love this app! No more switching between the map and my notes, saved me a lot of time on my last trip.
