Hi @munsonbh! While we've never used Contentful, it seems like a great product by a team that gets the space. From a philosophical perspective, we're probably both coming from the same place.
I'd guess that the biggest differences, at least from what we can tell, is probably how we approach the editorial tooling side of things. We've really worked hard to create an interface that feels more like a writing app than an admin form and a UI framework that lets us adapt our Dashboard to the structure of a publication's content.
On the API end, how content is structured, annotated, and packaged is also pretty different; but I'll let our engineering team better describe the differences in our official documentation (which we'll be releasing soon).
If there's one thing we've learned over the time we've been doing this is that there is plenty of space for multiple players. The next phase of publishing on the web isn't going be dominated by a single approach, but rather a highly fragmented landscape of custom and semi-custom systems that (hopefully) will be able to talk to one another.
