Here's how I'd think about it: Many products exist to teach coding and computational thinking to kids, but Mochi is unique in our approach as a content-first product. At its core, Mochi is a tech-enabled learning library. Unlike Cubetto which is focused more specifically on coding as a functional skill, we're proud of creating a broader holistic experience, introducing diverse subject-matter (biology, time, animals, colors, good habits, etc.) as a core part of the learning process. We let the quality of our curriculum and Story Library lead the user experience. More fundamentally, 99.9% of the world’s knowledge is still locked in books; much of this knowledge is not accessible to early childhood learners who are pre-literacy. With Mochi, our goal is to unlock this vast library of knowledge that children can explore using hands-on code - the most universal 21st-century language. Mochi unlocks this knowledge through: 1. Audio (our coding blocks include a read-aloud function) 2. Real-time interactive feedback (such as songs, sound, and out-loud narrations) 3. Observable movement and motor feedback (while programming the robot with the coding board) Finally, I'd emphasize Mochi's powerful interactive learning loop occurs through story-based play and storytelling - humanity's oldest pastime. As a result, more than half of our team is dedicated to product development, curriculum/content, and creative UX. The investment in a high-quality, story-based learning experience that caters to our most human need for stories is how we tackle the challenge of teaching computational thinking to such a young, budding, and capable age group.
