I built Mockstar because I was spending my days coaching people to help them develop job interview skills for $250/hour, and I kept seeing the same problem: how to get more realistic and useful practice after our session had identified their weaknesses in interview settings.
Non-native English speakers wanted to keep practicing their business English. Clients would get great insights about what to improve, but then they go back to practicing with basic Q&A-style apps that felt nothing like real interviews.
It used to be that you could line up interviews and treat them as practice. But companies are getting slammed with hundreds of applicants per role. Interviews and real feedback are scarce. Every interview needs to count.
What I feel makes Mockstar different 🎯
• It's based on the same metrics and feedback areas I give as a coach, with a bunch of quantitative measures made possible from voice and video analysis (speaking pace, filler words, eye contact, etc).
• Natural back-and-forth conversation that builds realistic pressure for a solid simulation
• Evidence-based feedback from actual recordings, not AI guesswork
I’m most proud of two things:
• Firstly, the economics work. You're getting professional-level coaching insights for $20-45/hour instead of $250, and it's available 24/7 when you need to practice for that big opportunity. I think it's especially good value for grads and early career applicants.
• Secondly, I’ve dreamed of building and launching a fully-fledged digital product on Product Hunt for a long time, so it feels very good to be posting this.

Thank you @bearbear! Friends can definitely help you to prepare for an interview, but I wanted to build something where you can practice for a specific interview as many times as you need to feel confident. I think this technology definitely has applications for mock sales calls and sales training, but I'm focused on job interviews for now. Thank you for your question and for supporting my launch.
Congrats Matt! Very polished. How far off do you think we are from the AI models and digital avatars being indistinguishable from a Zoom call? Seems close.
Hi @nathanwaters it's a good question and a driver for the idea behind this product. I'm starting to see a number of players in the space for generating real-time video with digital avatars and they're announcing larger funding rounds. I developed Mockstar in anticipation of this. I also designed the UI to start to feel like a typical video/Zoom call to better simulate the remote interview experience. Thanks for your question and for supporting my launch.
Hi Matt, this is a great idea! Can I use this across android and apple phones or is it best used on computers?
Thanks @emma_payne! Mockstar is a web application so there is no mobile app. I've used this on my own phone's internet browser without issue. However I suggest using a laptop/desktop, because you're likely to do real interviews in that way as well. Thanks for supporting my launch.
