Incredible concept. No longer have to cringe post out on instagram "Berlin, who's here ✌️✌️" or DM someone you're in the same city in and then go back and forth about dates and plans and then not meet up.
I became a super user the day I found out about the app! Have had 3 #mozimoments so far, meeting up with a friend in a different city that I wouldn't have known was there if it wasn't for Mozi!

this is really well executed... and also collects A LOT of personal data.
is this going to become a dating app?
What's the business model?

@chrismessina You're right, great point on the data. They say they don't sell your data, but they certainly freely "share" it with other 3rd parties. https://www.mozi.app/privacy-policy And if they want, apparently they'll keep it forever "When we no longer require the personal information we have collected about you, we may either delete it, anonymize it, or isolate it from further processing".
@chrismessina not gonna lie, one motivation for building Mozi is to know which friends I should set up on dates :)
Re: business model: There will always be a free version of Mozi. And we will not put features that are free today behind a paywall in the future. We plan to be “Freemium” eventually, by introducing new, premium features that are available for a subscription, similar to the business models of other apps we pay for and love, like Spotify, Oura, Insight Timer, Todoist and VSCO. Neither Ev nor I love the idea of bringing ads into Mozi, but we’re open to exploring partnerships with brands that have opportunities for our members.
Thanks for giving Mozi a whirl!

@molly_dewolf_swenson Love the idea and would love to give it a shot (so much I signed up for an account to post this comment), but I am concerned about the controls around personal data, particularly all the optional PII that is inevitably going to be shared on a social media platform. I would recommend giving the users the ability to permanently delete any optional information provided. Good luck!
I think that to maintain position in the social media world is harder each year. But as I see many bots on socials and AI characters I am pretty sure that smaller groups and "private social media" have higher chances to succeed.
Wish you good luck with the project.

I love this idea - Great way to be in touch with people without having to necessarily broadcast your own location - Plus, there's nothing worse than being in a place with someone & realising it only a few hours prior to your departure...got to make the most of the time!
Love the product, best of luck w/ the launch!

@cranqnow I feel the sam! Happened to me in Venice Italy this summer, when two friends I hadn't seen in 2 years were there same time as me and we didnt post on IG stories until after we had left so we missed one another. THE WORST!! Mozi has helped me immensely already since July with this very pain point
Congrats on the launch! The app looks incredible. I love the concept, idea and the sleek UI/UX design—it’s top-notch. I'll definitely take a closer look at the app.
I LOVE this idea. I have been noodling on the idea of "local-social" networks for a while, or as you guys call it "private networks".
When I downloaded the app, I only had two contacts currently using it, but even in those two contacts, I learned about a trip that an old co-worker is taking to San Diego and learned that we both support the same sports team. Even outside of facilitating an in-person connection, this format feels 1000X more connection-driving than anything going on on instagram or tiktok.
Excited to see how you all grow this and continue iterating!
I like the idea but it could be more than it currently is… some feature ideas:
- create a public gathering or invite more friends to a hang out
- post pictures of the meet up (either privately with the participants or publicly)
- Connect with Google calendar (and other calendars) to save the date of the meet up
- Connect with friends of your friends in the location of the plan you have coming soon or connect with people that you might be interested in (for example: I’m in a business trip and looking to connect with people that are in the startup or VC world; or connect with people that went to my same college…)
- To be able to establish availability during the plan

I love this idea! I know more people who exclusively use private accounts to control their circle and definietly think this is the direction social media is headed!
When will you be launching on Andriod?
