For the last few months, Harry and I have been building a new kind of messaging app. We believe that social media shouldn't be all about ‘friends’ and ‘followers’, but about the people around you, and the places you go. Nearly puts you in group threads based on where you are, so you can walk in and out of conversations, without having to sign up or check-in. We wanted to capture these shared social experiences, like queueing for a club or living in an apartment, with the intimacy and immediacy of a messaging app. We hope you like it, and that at some point we find ourselves in a thread together. Great idea in making new friends !! Sadly, I have an android :-(. 1) Curious to know. Is there a way to communicate 1-1 ? 2) Will contact and chats be deleted when the group /person become far apart ?

@balasubramanian_k_v Hi Balasubramanian, two great questions! 1. This is something we’ve thought about. Currently there’s no need for user a to sign up to Nearly, but that is functionality that we plan to add. Once that’s in place, we can introduce direct messaging. 2. Chats are not deleted. They’re fixed to the location where they were created. As you move around, the nearest threads will appear at the top, sorted by distance. You can scroll to find the thread that’s now further away. Return to where it was created, and it’ll be back as one of your nearest threads 😁

@hailpixel Thanks Devin. We're starting with a community moderation approach, so any user can delete any message. Users can also report messages. I'm sure this will evolve but we think the value lies in the immediacy of conversation rather than looking back at what people once said.
