I’m David, founder of NovelSprint.

I’ve been writing novels for years, but most of the time I didn’t really find writing itself “fun”. It was always hard work – and over time it started to feel more and more exhausting, which didn’t exactly help with motivation.

NovelSprint is my attempt to change that dynamic. I started working on it around March/April 2025 and have been iterating on it since then, exploring how far I could go with gamification: short, timed writing sprints, clear stats, streaks, and a community leaderboard that gives you a little dopamine hit whenever you show up and make progress. I plan to keep refining it based on how people actually use it.

The idea is simple: if the process feels more like a game, it becomes easier to sit down regularly and get words on the page – and to slowly shift the association away from “this is draining” towards “this is at least a bit more enjoyable”.

Right now there’s a free version, so you can just jump in and try a few sprints. I’m curious how you handle motivation in your own writing and which parts of NovelSprint you find most (or least) useful.
